Cho Young-Seon wins first gold medal for Korea in Men Singles

Cho Young-Seon (pictured left) of Korea captured the first gold medal for Korea in the Men Singles event of the 21st Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships at Khalifa Bowling Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Young-Seon knocked down 1433 pins in Squad 1, an average of 238.83 for six games on short oil, and remained unchallenged during the second squad to win the title.
Young-Seon had games of 232, 268, 254, 203, 253 and 223 to hold a 47-pin lead over Wu Siu Hong (left) of Hong Kong, who earned the silver medal with 1386.
Yousif Falah (right) of Bahrain started the second squad with 247, 238, 245 and 236 for 966 after four games. A 180 in the fifth game cost the Bahraini the gold medal. Needing a 240 final game to tie Siu Hong for the silver medal Falah posted 236 to fall four pins short but to earn the bronze medal with 1382.
Shusako Asato, Japan, closed out his series with 248 and 267 to land in fourth place with 1363. Jang Dong-Chul, Korea, who was third after Squad 1, slipped to fifth place with 1362.
His teammate Choi Bok-Eum (left) rolled the first 300 game of the championships in the third game of Squad 2. The lefty added five games between 196 and 219 and had to settle for a tied seventh place with 1349.
The 107 men from 20 countries - Australia, Bahrain, Chinese, Taipei, Egypt, Hong, Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand and UAE - will return on Tuesday afternoon for the Doubles competition on medium oil.
