Rhino Page (pictured left with host Jerry Bohlman) of Dade City, Fla., went 9-3 in match play and posted a 20-game total of 5,025 pins to record a 125-pin victory over Stevie Weber of Chalmette, La., in the PBA South Region Fran Bohlman Memorial Open at Avalon Lanes in Milton, Fla., on June 12.

Page, who won his second PBA South Region title of the season and of his career, held the lead from the end of qualifying to the end. He earned $1,800. Weber, who finished second with 4,900 pins including match play bonus pins, earned $1,000 as the runner-up.

Former Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour exempt player Derek Sapp (right) of Keokuk, Iowa, defeated Nathan Michalowski of Burlington, Wis., by 18 pins on June 12 to win the PBA Central/Midwest Region's Terre Haute Open at Terre Haute (Ind.) Bowling Center. Sapp finished with a 9-3 match play record and a total of 5,091 pins for 20 games, including match play bonus pins, for his sixth career PBA Regional title. He also earned $2,400.

In a preliminary event leading into the Senior U.S. Open in Las Vegas, a group of touring PBA Senior Tour players stopped in Sun City West, Ariz., where "Super Senior" Ron Winger (left) of Las Vegas posted a 6-5-1 match play record and a 20-game total of 4,899 pins to win his 13th career regional title in the PBA West Region Saguaro Senior Open at Johnson Lanes on June 22.

Winger, who turns 70 in September, earned $2,000 in winning his first PBA title in five years. While records are not kept for the PBA Regional program, the oldest player to win a PBA Senior Tour event was Jim Brenner in the 2006 Senior Epicenter Classic in Klamath Falls, Ore., at age 66 years, 358 days.

Winger, a five-time Senior Tour title winner, out-scored Henry Gonzalez of Colorado Springs, Colo., by 48 pins. Gonzalez had a 5-6-1 match play record and 4,851 pins for 20 games including match play bonus pins.

On this week's regional agenda are the PBA East Regional Howell Lanes Open in Howell, N.J., Friday-Sunday; the one-day PBA Central Region's Dan Ottman Memorial Classic at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights, Mich., on Saturday; the joint PBA Southwest/Midwest Region Wichita Open at Thunderbird Lanes in Wichita, Kan., Friday-Sunday; and the joint PBA West/Northwest Region Win Country Open at Double Decker Lanes in Rohnert Park, Calif., Friday-Sunday.

 

Free PBA.com video features probe what PBA Tour stars really think

What made you fall in love with bowling in the first place? How does it feel to be completely in charge of your game? What's it like to…?

Those questions and more were posed to several of the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour's top stars during the PBA GEICO Team Shootout and will be the topics of a series of three-minute video features which can be viewed at no cost on pba.com this summer.

Produced by PBA technical advisor Jason Thomas, the online video features were recorded in Chicago during the fifth annual PBA special event. The first two segments, called "Love" and "Cruelty," are online now.

If you miss the initial airing dates, each of the segments also will be part of pba.com's Xtra Frame "on demand" collection, and made available to the PBA's growing group of affiliate web sites. The weekly series topics include:

• LOVE: What do you love about the sport of bowling?
• CRUELTY: How do you handle the cruel nature of bowling?
• FAMILY: What is it like to win in front of family?

XTRA Frame to cover Senior U.S. Open, Brentwood finals, Bowl Expo

Live online coverage of the PBA Senior Tour on pba.com's Xtra Frame moves west over the next two weeks, starting with the match play final rounds of the PBA Senior U.S. Open at Suncoast Bowling Center in Las Vegas Thursday and Friday.

Xtra Frame will cover the final three eight-game match play rounds on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. Pacific) and Friday at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. PT) and 3 p.m. (noon PT). Xtra Frame will then cover the four-player stepladder finals beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT).

Xtra Frame will then head to Brentwood, Calif., to cover the final match play rounds of the Senior Northern California Classic at Harvest Park Bowl on Wednesday, June 22, starting at 8 a.m. PT (11 a.m. ET).

Xtra Frame will conclude its June coverage with a series of insightful coverage from International Bowl Expo in Texas. Bowlers Journal International and Ebonite's Powerhouse division are teaming up with Xtra Frame to provide "Bowlers Journal on Xtra Frame" coverage from AMF Showplace Lanes in Euless and the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas, June 28-30.

Coverage will begin at Ebonite's new product showcase at Showplace Lanes on June 28. Bowling industry interviews and features from the trade show floor at Bowl Expo will follow on June 29 and 30. "On-demand" coverage will follow Bowl Expo, including interviews from "A Night on the Campus" from the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas, on June 29.
