44 of the expected 47 countries and regions have sent players to the inaugural World Tenpin Bowling Association World Singles Championships which got underway today with the official practice at Galactica Bowling Center in Limassol, Cyprus. The official opening ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. local time. 128 players - 72 men from 40 countries and 56 women from 33 countries have been arrived in Cyprus. All games will be played on the 41 feet "Montreal" lane conditioning pattern.

The World Championships, which will be held from August 16-31 at Sunset Station's Strike Zone bowling center, a 72-laner in suburban Las Vegas, USA, will be hosted by four partners: WTBA, USBC, Station Casinos and the City of Henderson.

The organizers of the International Bowling Championships 2013 supported by DHC have announced that the tournament will become a "Major" on the 2013 World Bowling Tour organized by the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA). The International Bowling Championships 2013 will be the lone WBT "Major" outside the United States. 137 men and 119 women will bowl in separate divisions for total prize fund of 30 million Japanese Yen or approximately USD375,000. with JPY6,000,000 (USD75,000) each going to the men's and women's champion.

The eight qualifying squads for international bowlers and the main event will be held from Jan. 15-19 at Inazawa Grand Bowl, the biggest bowling center in the world on one floor.

The Executive Board of the World Tenpin Bowling Association, Tenpin Bowling's governing body, met during the World Youth Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 21-22. The Executive Board made decisions on Betting, Tie Rules in World Championships, Entry Fee in World Championships, Athlete Vote, Lane Mapping and World Senior Championships (WSrC) - some of them By-Laws with specific dates to be effective.

The finals of the 2011-12 NBF Federation Bowling Tour were held this past weekend at Claus Event Center in Hoofddorp. Daniëlle van der Meer and Michell Stinissen (r-l) won the women's and men's title in the highest division and will represent their country at the 2012 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Poland. In the women's title match, Van der Meer defeated defending champion Wendy Kok, 2-1, while Stinissen topped Sven Steenbekkers, 2-1, for the men's title.

Fransson, seeded third, defeated No. 4 Chris Via, USA, 206-198, to capture the first gold medal for Sweden in this championship. In the semifinals, Via cruised to a 246-180 victory over All Events champion Sam Cooley of Australia, while Fransson equally easily sidelined two-time gold medalist Marshall Kent, USA, 242-202.

In the semifinals, Sijore, the reigning adult World Champion in Singles, ousted Bernice Lim of Singapore, 228-171 and Hwang eliminated Sijore's teammate Dayang Khairuniza, 223-181.

United States' Andrew Koff, Zack Hattori, Chris Via and Marshall Kent followed in the footprints of the U.S. girls and defeated Singapore, 889-807, to capture the coveted title in the Boys four-player Team event at the 12th World Youth Championships. Like in the girls division Singapore had to settle for the silver meal while top-seeded Sweden and Germany, seeded second, shared bronze. None of the six top seeds in this Championships have won the gold medal.
