The 2009 Women's World Championships will conclude on Sunday with the Masters competition featuring the top 16 players in the All Events standings. 10 countries of the 45 present in Las Vegas will be represented in the finals which will be held in best-of-five match play format: 4 players from Doubles and Team World Champion Korea, 3 players from the host country United States including Singles World Champion Stefanie Nation, two players from Denmark, and one each from Colombia, Finland, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Sweden. The No. 1 seed, All Events World Champion Clara Guerrero (pictured left), Colombia, will meet No. 16, Siti Safiyah Amirah, Malaysia
The Melaka International Bowling Center was officially opened for business last month by the Chief Minister of Melaka and now all involved are looking forward to welcoming bowlers from around the world in mid-November for the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup. As for the tournament, 90 countries have now indicated that they will be sending representatives. The qualifying rounds start on 16th November with
the finals on 19th.
Franz Monteiro and Roberta Rodrigues won the men's and women's title in the 18th Brazil Open Cup Qubica AMF en route to earn the Brazilian spots for the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup. However, they took different routes win the titles as Monteiro had to win four games in three matches while Rodrigues needed just one win to seal the victory. The 2009 Bowling World Cup will be held at Melaka International Bowling Center in Melaka, Malaysia from Nov. 13 through 20, 2009. 
The World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA) will join its men's and women's world championships every four years beginning in 2013, the WTBA Congress decided recently. The Congress was held after the Women's World Championships at Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. The joint championships will have a limited field with approximately
one in three countries from each of the three zones - American, Asian
and European - taking part. In other news, China's Cui Zhiqiang beat out Ponkuchamy Satkuna Nathan, Malaysia, in the elction for second vice president of the organization. 
Like in the 2008 Men's World Championship, the teams from Korea and the United States faced off in the gold medal match of the 2009 Women's World Championships in Las Vegas. Ditto for the position after preliminaries. Korea was the No. 1 and Team USA the No. 2. The question was: Would the U.S. team win its first team gold (doubles, trios and team) since 1987 or would the Koreans extend the winning streak for Asian women teams at World Championships to sixth in a row??
In the very last game of the 2009 Women's World Championships in Las Vegas, the Masters gold medal was decided between Clara Juliana Guerrero from Colombia and Hwang Sun-Ok, Korea. Guerrero had won the gold medal in All Events while Hwang had already two gold medals in Doubles and Team. Guerrero averaged over 232 on her way to the championship match including a record 805 3-game series but Hwang could even top this averaging over 237. Top seeded Clara Juliana Guerrero (pictured left), won her second individual gold in the 2009 Women's World Championships at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas when she defeated Doubles and Team World Champion Hwang Sun-Ok (right), Korea, in the Masters final, three-games-to-two. Trailing 2-1 after three games, Guerrero was able to level the match and secured the title with a 203-182 win in the decider. Hwang earned silver, while her team mates Son Yun-Hee and Gang Hye-Eun shared the bronze.

In the other semifinal, Doubles champions Hwang Sun-Ok and Gang Hye-Eun face off. Hwang swept Liz Johnson, which leaves the U.S. without a medal in the Masters. Gang eliminated the fourth Korean, Jeon Eun-Hee (right) , 3-1.
Great comeback by All Events champ Clara Juliana Guerrero, who came back from being down 0-2 to defeat Siti Safiyah, 3-2, in best-of-three format. All four Koreans advanced to the Round of 4 after eliminating two Americans, Carolyn Dorin-Ballard and Stefanie Nation as well as Krista Pöllänen and Maki Nakano. Team USA's Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, Liz Johnson and World Singles Champion Stefanie Nation fired the highest game of the Trios event at the Women's World Championships to defeat Japan, 742-659 in the semifnals. Yang Hao-Ting, Tsai Hsin-Yi and Tang Ya-Chun from Chinese Taipei set up a title match against the Americans when they topped Denmark in the other semifinal, 610-605. To watch the title match 
Competition in the 2009 Women's World Championships in Las Vegas continues Saturday with the five-player team event. All teams will bowl two three-game blocks before the field is cut to the top four, who will advance to the finals.
Among the favorites are defending champion Malaysia, back-to-back runner-up United States, the Asian champion from Korea, Denmark, which has reached all finals thus far and Chinese Taipei, the surprise winner in the Trios event yesterday. Semifinal and final action kicks off at 9:30 p.m. EDT and will be streamed live on bowl.com.

Team USA's Stefanie Nation, Sandra Gongora, Mexico, Anja Ginge Jensen, Denmark, and Krista Pöllänen from Finland battled it out for the gold medal in the Singles event at the 2009 Women's World Championships. Nation eliminated Pöllänen in the semifinals, 220-195, and Gongora flew past Ginge Jensen, 258-209. The light ball bowlers from Chinese Taipei stunned the bowling heavyweights
from the United States in the title match of the Trios World
Championships Friday evening.
The underdogs defeated the favorites, 660-602, to claim the gold medal.
The team consisting of two spinners Tsai Hsin-Yi and Yang Hao-Ting and a traditional style bowler, anchor Tang Ya-Chun,
showed excellent accuracy throughout the match and was firmly in control of
the match entering the 10th frame. They bowled a clean 10th frame and
cruised to victory. Team USA got silver while Japan and Denmark shared the bronze medal. 
Team USA's Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, Liz Johnson and Singles World Champion Stefanie Nation
earned the No. 1 seed for the for the World Trios Championships in Las
Vegas. The Americans felled 1942 on short and 1916 pins on the medium
oil pattern to finish atop the leaderboard with 3858 pinfall total and
an average of 214.33. The Americans will bowl No. 4 Maki Nakano, Ayano Katai and Nao Ohish, Japan in one semifinal and No. 2 Yang Hao-Ting, Tsai Hsin-Yi and Tang Ya-Chun, Chinese Taipei takes on No. 3 Anne Gales, Kamilla Kjeldsen and Rikke Rasmussen, Denmark, in the other. The winners will bowl for the title and
the losers will share the bronze medal. 
Yang Hao-Ting, Tsai Hsin-Yi and Tang Ya-Chun (r-l) from Chinese Taipei set the pace in the preliminaries of the World Trios Championships after the 35 trios from Squad 2 have completed their six game block Friday morning. The team posted games of 617, 678 and 595 for 1890 and added that to the 1908 from the first block yesterday. The six-game total of 3798 and a 211.00 average propelled the Chinese Taipei bowler to the top of Squad 2. However, the top 4 trios from Squad 1, United States, Korea, Denmark and Hong Kong, each averaged higher than the Chinese Taipei trio in the first block.
