At the fourth Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Federation's (CTBF) Congress held in Belfast, Northern Ireland,
Julian Pace Bonello, president of the Malta Tenpin Bowling Association, was confirmed as head of the CTBF for another four-year term. The congress was attended by all Commonwealth nations that were present in Northern Ireland for the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships, namely Australia, Bahamas, Canada, England, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, India, Malaysia, Malta, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Singapore and Wales.
Australian tenpin sports star Ann-Maree Putney from Newcastle has been honored by the announcement that she is to be inducted into the international WBW Hall of Fame. Putney's career haul of eight gold, ten silver and nine bronze medals at world level is seen as a truly remarkable result and is of iconic proportions. Putney signed off with, "I thought winning at world level for Australia was the pinnacle of success, but this is just a whole new experience. I am humbled," she added.
Former Team USA member Bill Hoffman of Columbus, Ohio, has become just the second American male elected to the World Bowling Writers Hall of Fame. Hoffman joins Les Zikes of Chicago, who was inducted in 1999, among an elite group of international players selected for the honor. A nine-time Team USA member from 1999-2008, Hoffman has won dozens of medals in international competition. Hoffman now serves as the International Development team leader for the United States Bowling Congress, helping to grow the sport of bowling around the world.
PDM Sports, organizer of the annual World Sports Festival in Austria, received one of the top honors in the 12th Austrian Event Award 2008 conducted in Salzburg, Austria. 106 projects were targeting for the golden award in 10 different categories. The jury awarded the "Events Oscar" to PDM Sports and the World Sports Festival in the category "Public Events Sport". The 2009 World Sports Festival will run from July 9-12 with the tenpin bowling events being contested once again at Brunswick Bowling Hernals in Vienna, Austria.
The United States Bowling Congress, host of the 2009 World Tenpin Bowling Association Women’s World Championships has released the Bulletin No. 1 for the championships which will be held from July 24-August 3, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The 2009 WWC will be hosted on 60 lanes, specially constructed inside Cashman Center in which the 2009 USBC Open Championships will be staged prior to the WWC. The host hotel Sunset Station Hotel and Casino’s Strike Zone Bowling Center will host the U.S. Women’s Open immediately after the WWC from Aug 3-9.
Jasmine Yeong-Nathan from Singapore and Team USA's Derek Eoff claimed the women's and men's title in the prestigious 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup on Friday, Nov. 14 at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico. In the women's title match, Yeong-Nathan won the first-ever World Cup title for Singapore by defeating defending champion Ann-Maree Putney, Australia, two-games-to-none. Eoff won the second consecutive men's title for the United States with 2-1 win over Martin Larsen, Sweden. Putney and Larsen finished second with Zara Glover, England, and Zulmazran Zulkifli, Malaysia, in third place.
Following a meeting of the city council on Monday, the city of Duisburg, Germany, has announced to withdraw as host city for the 2013 World Games, just nine months after Ron Froehlich (r.), President of the International World Games Association (IWGA), announced the IWGA Executive Committee's decision to award the 9th World Games 2013 to the two German cities of Duisburg and Düsseldorf. As a consequence of Duisburg's decision, Düsseldorf announced on Tuesday that it will also withdraw its candidacy.
16-year-old Sin Li Jane from Malaysia and Paul Moor from England took different routes to win the women's and men's Masters titles in the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship at Dundonald International Ice Bowl in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Top seeded Sin Li Jane defeated Jazreel Tan, Singapore, two-games-to-one, thanks to two wins on her favorite long oil pattern. Moor, the No. 3 seed, had to win two matches where his opponents decided the pattern to start on. In the men's title match, Moor topped compatriot Darren Cundy, 2-1, despite Cundy rolling the tournament's first 300 in game #2.
Singles champion Sin Li Jane (pictured left) from Malaysia rolled the field-best 1385 series on her favorite long-oil pattern at Dundonald International Ice Bowl in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to secure the No. 1 seed for the stepladder finals in the women's Masters competition of the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship. The 16-year-old finished atop the leaderboard with 2697 pinfall total and an average of 224.75. Short oil leader and second-place finisher Jo Allsebrook, England, will take on No.3 Jazreel Tan, Singapore, in the opening match in best-of-three games format. 
Darren Cundy (l.) from England averaged 257.66 during the second six-game block on long oil and posted a 1546 series en route to claim the top spot for the men's Masters finals in the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Starting the day in third place, Cundy rolled an 826 series for the first three games including games of 268, 280 and 278. He finished his series with a 290 game for 1546 and 2905 pinfall total, an average of 242.08 for 12 games. In the opening match of the stepladder finals in best-of-three games format, Joe Ciach from Canada will take on Cundy's compatriot Paul Moor.
Jo Allsebrook and Zara Glover, (l-r) both from England, took the lead in the women's Masters competition as the preliminaries have reached the halfway point. Both players cracked the 1400-bar over six games on the short oil pattern. Allsebrook started with a 765 3-game set including a near-perfect 298 in game #2 and added 645 to lead the field of 12 players from 8 countries (Australia, Canada, England and Singapore brought both players into the Masters) with 1410 and an average of 235.00. Glover was second with 1403 and Jo-Ann Sanesac, Canada, was third with 1359. 
Paul Moor (l.) from England finished the first day in the men's Masters preliminaries with back-to-back 248 games to set the pace after the first of two six-game blocks on short oil with 1398 total and an average of 233. Mark Buffa (r.), Canada, who led the field of 12 players from 8 countries for the first five games, closed out his set with a 195 game to settle for second place with 1391 (231.83). Moor's team mate Darren Cundy sits in third place with 1359 (226.50). 
England overtook first block leader Malaysia in the second 3-game block on long oil en route to claim the gold medal in the four-player Mixed Team event at the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship. Paul Moor, Jo Allsebrook, Darren Cundy and Zara Glover won the second gold medal for England with 5404 pinfall total (225.17). Malaysia took silver with 5264, while Canada beat out Singapore for the bronze medal, 5133 to 5066. Glover and Mohd Nur Aiman, Malaysia won the titles in All Events and lead the top 12 women and men into Friday's Masters finals. 
Jazreel Tan and Remy Ong (l-r) from Singapore captured the gold medal in Mixed Doubles on the third day of competition in the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship Wednesday at Dundonald International Ice Bowl in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Needing a score of 440 in the final game, the duo felled 451 pins to win the title with championship record of 2778 six-game total and an average of 231.50. Highlight of the series was the record-breaking 557shot in game #4. Silver and bronze went to the doubles from Malaysia.
Shaun Ng and Remy Ong (l-r) captured the title in the men's doubles event at the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship in Northern Ireland en route to win the first gold medal for Singapore. The Singaporeans lead the 16 countries on short oil with 2730 six-game total and an average of! 227.50. Paul Moor and Darren Cundy, England, landed in second place with 2678 (223.17). Singles champion Mohd Nur Aiman and Syafiq Ridhwan finished with a 453 game to secure the bronze medal with 2635 (219.58). 
Malaysia’s Mohd Nur Aiman (pictured left) averaged 256.50 for six games and felled 1539 pins en route to capture the first gold medal of the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in the men's Singles competition. Glen Loader (r.) of Australia finished his series with 279 and 278 to secure the silver medal with 1402 (233.67). Mark Buffa beat out fellow Canadian Joe Ciach for the bronze medal by 13 pins, 1395 to 1382. 
Bowlers, officials and supporters from 16 Commonwealth countries were welcomed to Belfast at Sunday evening's official Opening of the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship by the Mayor of Castlereagh, Cr. Ann-Marie Beattie and the High Sheriff of Belfast, Cr. Margaret McKenzie. Held biennially, the championship has previously been staged in Scotland, Cyprus and Australia, and this year the Northern Ireland Tenpin Bowling Federation is hosting the event at Dundonald International Ice Bowl, Castlereagh.
