Bolleby (pictured left) and Saebae, who averaged 240 and 230, respectively, in the final six-game block to earn the No. 1 seed for the six-player stepladder finals, had the advantage of having to lose two games to suffer defeat.

The former Swedish youth international, who now bowls for Thailand, earned 300,000 Baht ($8,550) along with his second Thailand Open title since 2014.

Liew earned the right to bowl Bolleby for the title by defeating Norman Cai (right) of Singapore and Annop Arromsaranon, Thailand, in the semifinal match, 228-189-157. Arromsaranon posted a 210 to survive a close opening match against Singapore’s Cheah Ray Han (208) and Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia (201).

Roumimper (below left) rolled a big 246 game in the semifinal to hold off Malaysia’s Nur Syazwani Sahar (232) and Sin Li Jane (202). In an all-Malaysian opening round, Nur (below right) flew past Hee Kar Yen and Sharon Koh, 239-188-180.

Qualifying in the men’s and women’s Open Masters divisions featured three five-game blocks over three days (total 15 games). All participants were split into four squads (A, B, C and D).

The top 3 local and the top 3 overseas qualifiers in both divisions earned one bye and were seeded in Round Three.

The top 26 men in the Mixed Pool plus the top 4 of the Desperado Squad and the top 18 women in the Mixed Pool advanced to Round Two. Each player bowled six games scratch to cut to the top 18 men and the top 8 women.

The remaining 24 men and 14 women bowled another six-game block scratch to cut to the top 6 players.

The finalists were placed into a six-player stepladder, with the fourth, fifth and sixth seeds meeting in the first match and the winner facing the second and third seeds in the semifinals. The winner of the semifinal match must defeat the top seed twice to win the title.

The top 16 Asian men and the top 16 Asian women qualified for the 2016 Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Tour Thailand leg, which will be held at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl Ratchayothin on Monday, April 18.
