Three-time PBA50 Tour winner Jim Brenner dies at 76

Three-time PBA50 Tour winner Jim Brenner of Bettendorf, Iowa, the oldest player to win a PBA50 Tour title, died Friday after a brief battle with cancer. He was 76.

The first of his three PBA50 Tour titles came in the 1995 Ladies and Legends doubles event in El Cajon, Calif., where he teamed with Cheryl Daniels to win the title.

In one of his most memorable moments in senior competition, he defeated two of the sport’s greats to win the 1996 PBA Senior St. Petersburg/Clearwater Open. He won the event by defeating Teata Semiz, 204-173, in the title match after beating Hall of Famer Earl Anthony in the semifinal, 225-173.

He had to wait 10 years for his next PBA50 title, which was also memorable. In winning the 2006 Epicenter Classic in Klamath Falls, Ore., by beating Henry Gonzalez, 2-1, in the best-of-three-game final match, he became the oldest player to win a PBA50 Tour title at age 66 years and 358 days.

Brenner also owned six PBA50 Regional titles, had four 300 games, and amassed more than $250,000 in earnings since becoming a PBA member in 1985.
