“It’s better than winning a title,” said an emotional Carter. “It’s extremely humbling and I really don’t know what else more to say other than to thank my fellow competitors for the honor.”

The picture above shows PBA legend Dick Weber in action (1960).

In addition to competing on the PBA50 Tour, Carter, a player services representative for Brunswick, travels the PBA50 Tour in his motor home with wife Linda who serves as assistant to tournament director John Weber.

The award has special meaning for Carter not only because it was voted on by his fellow players but also because of his admiration for the late bowling legend the award is named after who passed away in 2005.

“It’s special to me because I’ve been a friend of the entire Weber family,” said Carter, a long-time Rochelle, Ill., resident before moving to Columbus, Ohio. “After Dick died (Dick’s son and Midwest PBA Regional Manager) Rich Weber gave me one of Dick’s 300 rings and I wear it to this day.”

Carter can also often be heard as a color commentator on Xtra Frame broadcasts of PBA50 Tour events.

“I enjoy doing the commentary immensely,” Carter said. “It’s kind of an extension of what I do as a player services rep and pro shop operator. I want to do anything I can to bring enjoyment to the game whether it be working with the guys out on the PBA50 Tour or anyone for that matter.”

The Carters operate five pro shops and are now based in Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in Columbus, Ohio. Columbus Bowl has just been announced as the host center for the 2016 Barbasol PBA Players Championship next February.

On the lanes this season, Carter, a six-time PBA50 Regional titlist and 2007-08 Midwest PBA50 Regional Player of the Year, had a best PBA50 Tour finish of 16th in the Pasco County Florida Open. His career-best PBA50 Tour finish of fourth came in the 2010 PBA Senior Columbus Open, which was won by Wayne Webb.
