GPBT Tour #12

HP Lanes in Columbus, Ohio (March 16-19, 2007)

2007GPBT17DaveDavis.jpg The Generations Bowling Tour has a new champion from it's Classic Division. PBA Hall of Famer Dave Davis, 64, defeated David Ozio, 203-194, Monday evening at HP Lanes in Columbus, Ohio, to win the Columbus Open and his first GBT title to go with his 18 PBA crowns from his Hall of Fame career. Davis earned $8,000 for the victory, and Ozio got $4,500 as runner-up.

In the championship match, Davis took control in the second half of the game when he got three strikes in frames 7 through 9 when Ozio got into trouble in frames 5 through 7 with three short counts. Ozio got 5, 6 and 7, but still had a chance to get back in the match in the ninth. After a strike in the eighth, he came up a little high, leaving a four pin, and the match was over.

"All titles mean everything, and this one is very special because you never know when it's your last," said Davis. "I was feeling the nerves. It's been a long time since I bowled for a title. When you are bowling against great players like Semiz and Ozio and all the rest, it's nerve-racking. Every ball is critical."

In prior matches in the senior division, Ozio defeated Dave Patchen in a hard fought game 256-247 to reach the final. Before that, Patchen defeated Dennis Lane257-179, and lane beat Mark Estes 187-184.

In the Classic Division final game, Davis defeated Dale Eagle 228-189, Teata Semiz 206-192, and David Bernhardt 277-192.

The Generations Bowling Tour now takes a two-week break until it's final swing begins with April 6-9 with the Wichita Open at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, KS. The final two events of the inaugural GBT season will be in Austin and Houston, Texas.

Ozio and Eagle lead GPBT Columbus Open after first match play round

2006GBT02DaleEagleDavidOzio.jpg The Generations Pro Bowling Tour's top two players, David Ozio (r.) and Dale Eagle (l.), took charge in the first round of match play Monday at HP Lanes in Columbus, Ohio.

Ozio won five of his six matches Monday morning, rolling a 1379 and averaging 229.8. "They (the lanes) are getting more and more difficult as the always do at this point on this 42-foot pattern," said Ozio.

Ozio continued to lead the Senior Division (50 and over) after three rounds overall with 5213 total including 150 pins bonus (30 per win). Dave Patchen also went 5-1 in match play to move into second place with 5186.

"I'm rolling the ball as slow as possible, but carry is getting tougher with every shot. This is the same thing that happened in Detroit when Patchen won, so look out for him this afternoon."

Eagle rolled an 1179 for five games in round three, an average of 235.8, and won all but one of his five matches. "They (the lanes) were a little slower today, so I tried to keep my speed down and use a direct line to the pocket," said Eagle.

"The lanes were changing. The oil was carrying down, and I really tried to keep my focus. That was the key for me."

The final round of match play begins at 3:00 pm today, after which the top four players in each division will advance to the divisional stepladder finals, which begins at 6:00 pm. The division winners will then bowl for the title.

Ozio and Pierce lead GPBT Columbus Open after Round Two

2006GBT01DavidOzio.jpg David Ozio was a picture of consistency in round two of the Generations Pro Bowling Tour Columbus Open at HP Lanes in Columbus, Ohio. The 'wizard’ had a high game of 259 and a low of 216 on his way to a nice 1881 eight-game total, an average of 235.13.

Ozio moved to the top in the Senior Division (50 and over) after 16 games with 3684 pinfall total and an average of 230.25 average. First round leader Mark Roth slipped to second place at 3630.

Chuck_Pierce_5175.jpg Chuck Pierce held on to the lead he established in round one in the classic division (60 and over). His Sunday total was 1725 and 3602 for 16 games. Dale Eagle is remained in second with a 3578.

"I got the speed dialed in today, said Ozio. "Yesterday, I threw it too hard the first three games, and today, I geared my speed way back. This is as slow as I can throw a ball on this 42 foot pattern. Today, I managed to raise those first three games to around 730, and the rest of the games were on pace with yesterday. It's just a speed issue with me. Now, I've got to do it again tomorrow."

"I started out real good this morning, then fell asleep for a couple of games," said Pierce. After that I was just consistent. I played the lanes in the track area just like yesterday. Consistency was the key for me. I'm very satisfied with the way it's going, and I'll just try to keep it going in the match play."

It took a 213.1 average to make the cut to match play in the senior division (top 16), and a 207.2 to make it in the Classic Division (top 10). Those 26 bowlers will determine the top 4 bowlers in each division, who will advance to the divisional stepladder finals. The division winners will then bowl for the title.
