UMESLogo.jpgThree weeks, three All-Tournament Teams, three Mid- Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week awards. Junior Martha Perez (Bogota, Colombia) has the distinction of being that very recipient, earning her third consecutive honor, the conference announced on Feb. 2.

Perez and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks are rolling, winners of their last three tournaments, UMES is the hottest college women's bowling team in the United States sporting an overall record of 80-18 and standing at the No. 2 spot in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) poll.

Vanderbilt, the poll's top team lost both matches to the Hawks at last weekend's Kutztown Invite. Along with a win over No. 3 Delaware State and three wins over No. 4 Fairleigh Dickinson, the Lady Hawks are the team to beat right now.

Perez has had a lot to do with that. She has earned three straight All-Tournament Team honors, the last coming on the heels of a 217 average of six team games. She knocked down 1,302 pins and tallied four games over 200, including a high-game of 255 in a win over Howard.

2009WWCPaulaVilas_small.jpgUMES went 14-1 at the event. Also a big part of the success is sophomore Paula Vilas (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) who averaged 217.6 in five games at the same event.

While she opened with a 164 in game one, she quickly got the average back up after a game off, by rolling a perfect 300 against No. 19 Norfolk State. Vilas' perfect game is the first in school history and one of just five reported games since the NCAA adopted bowling as a sport in the 2003-04 season. She totaled 1,088 pins.

Vilas was named an Other Top Performer by the league. Perez, Vilas and the rest of the Lady Hawks will head to Dover, Del. this weekend for the Capital Classic.
