Canadian Tenpin Federation names 2010 Bowlers of the Year

The Canadian Tenpin Federation has named the 2010 Bowlers of the Year in the following categories: Adult male and female, Senior male and female and Junior male and female.
Michael Schmidt (pictured left) and Caroline Lagrange (right) were named Adult Male and Female Bowlers of the Year.
Michael Schmidt of Tyndall, Manitoba finished in first place at the 2010 Bowling World Cup Nationals in St. Catharines, Ontario and represented Canada at the 46thQuibica/AMF Bowling World Cup held in Toulon, France.
Schmidt won the men's title, his second Bowling World Cup title. He won his first World Cup title in Ljubjana, Slovenia in 2005. Schmidt also finished in third place at the 2010 Canadian National Championships to earn a spot on the 2011 Team Canada.
In addition he had several first place finishes in his home province namely the MCBA Scratch Singles, WTBA Marinelli City Singles, Chateau Scratch Classic and the MCBA Scratch Tournament. This is Schmidt's second Bowler of the Year honors after 2005.
Caroline Lagrange of Montreal, Quebec had great success at the 2010 Pan American Bowling Confederation Women's Championships (PABCON). She won gold in the Trios event, bronze in Doubles and finished in fourth place in All Events.
Lagrange was the 2010 Canadian National Championships women's champion and will be a member of the 2011 Team Canada. She finished second in the World Cup National Qualifier and just missed the chance to defend the World Cup title she won in 2009.
This is Lagrange's fifth Adult Women Bowler of the Year. She also earned the award in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009.
Miles Nerona and Sherry Hobson were named the 2010 Senior Bowlers of the Year.
Miles Nerona of New Westminster, British Columbia, earned four bronze medals at the Tournament of the Americas in singles, doubles, team and national team. He earned first place scratch All Events for senior men at the 2010 Canadian Mixed Championships after winning first place All Events honors in the B.C. Seniors Championships. Nerona bowled a perfect 300 game and had an 800 series in 2010.
Sherry Hobson, Winnipeg, Manitoba won two bronze medals at the Tournament of the Americas in team and national team. She earned first place scratch All Events for senior women at the 2010 Canadian Mixed Championships. Hobson won Adult Women Bowler of the Year honors in 2007.
Graham Fach and Brittany Hawkes earned Bowler of the Year honors in the Junior male and female division.
Graham Fach of Guelph, Ontario, earned first place Senior Boys Singles and second place in teams at the YBC National Championship. He also won third place in Singles, second place in Teams and first in All Events at the Canadian Youth Championships. Fach also won a singles medal in the Youth Team event at the Tournament of the Americas.
Brittany Hawkes of Victoria, British Columbia won first place All Events, third place Singles and third place Doubles at the Canadian Youth Championships. She earned first place at the British Columbia Scholarship Tournament and the Canadian Tenpin Federation provincial championships. |Hawkes was also the 2006 Youth Bowler of the Year.
