172 average bowler throws four Brooklyns to win TAT Nationals

Jamescart Alarcio of Pomona, California, threw four Brooklyn strikes (3 in a row) in the final game of the TAT Amateur Nationals to become the first bowler ever from the “189 & Under Division” to win a TAT Nationals title.

The TAT, which was held Feb. 1-6 at The Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nev., had over 4,000 entries and paid out over $300,000 in just six days in all its events, including over $220,000 in the TAT Main Finals. Champion Alarcio took home $20,000.

Alarcio (center) is a 172 average bowler who bowled in the last five qualifying squads of the tournament managing to qualify on the very last squad. He averaged 168 in the tournament only, but in the finals he bowled his way through his division in the exciting TAT finals format.

The finalists consisted of the five division champions (pictured above). Alarcio saved the best for last and bowled his highest game of the event in the final game.

Manuel Cornejo (215 & Under) rom Mexico City took 2nd place and $10,000, while Mark Mazulla (Age 36-54) took home $7,500 for third place. Rounding out the final match was Mostafa Nejatkakhsh (55 & Over) from Canada, and long-time TAT bowler Craig Spencer (35 & Under) who received $6,000 and $5,000 for fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Spencer had a tremendous week of bowling making the TAT Top 5 and also winning the Roto Grip Challenge for $5,000 in an exciting one ball roll off.

This year’s TAT Nationals featured a new Scratch Only tournament that sold out and paid out almost $10,000 despite only having one Squad and a $125 entry fee. Brett Shephard emerged as the inaugural Scratch Only Champion when he defeated Tony Todd for $3,000.

As the organizers received very positive feedback about this new tournament it is primed to grow in the future.

Another huge success at the TAT was the Senior Only Tournament where Everett Nishikawa beat out Greg Shields in the final match to win $5,000.

Nishikawa is a longtime TAT bowler and recruiter but has had some trouble the last few TAT Events. He bowled the best he had in years and claims it was all due to the new Roto Grip Haywire & Menace he received at the TAT.
