Amleto Monacelli, Venezuela, has been chosen as the January 2016 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Monacelli defeated Don Barrett, England, 255-233, to win the DHC PBA Japan Invitational for his 20th PBA title.

The TV stepladder finals began with fourth seed and defending champion Chris Barnes, Double Oak, Texas, ousting fifth seed Shota Kawazoe, Japan, 227-220. Barnes downed third seed John Szczerbinski, North Tonawanda, New York, in the quarterfinal 232-202. The second seed Monacelli defeated Barnes, 275-221, setting up the title match with the top seed Barrett.

Monacelli had the second best match play record among the finalists with 24-8. Only Kawazoe was better with 25-7.

The 1997 PBA Hall of Famer becomes the fourteenth player to win 20 PBA titles, and also his third win in Japan. He defeated legendary Japanese bowler Takeo Sakai in 1987 for his first PBA title, and the late David D’Entremont in 1995.

Others obtaining votes this month were Paul Moor, winner of the 28th Irish Championships, Danielle McEwan and Marshall Kent, respective women’s and men’s winners of the Team USA Trials, and Anthony Pepe, winner of the PBA Grand Casino, Hotel, and Resort Winter Open.
