The WTBA International Open, the first World Tenpin Bowling Association owned and operated event, was the third stop of the 2012 World Bowling Tour. The preliminaries, which were held at Sunset Station's Strike Zone bowling center in Henderson, Nev., United States, from Jan. 28 - Feb. 5, 2012, drew 132 players - 123 men and nine women.
36 out of 50 exempt players of the 2011-12 PBA Tour participated in the WTBA Open including five PBA Hall of Famers eight PBA Player of the Year and ten PBA Rookie of the Year.
The top three players - Liz Johnson, Chris Barnes and Walter Ray Williams Jr. - earned expenses-paid trips to suburban Paris for the stepladder finals, which will be held in conjunction with the Brunswick Euro Challenge.
Johnson is a two-time WTBA World Champion and owns 12 PBWA titles including 2007 Women's U.S. Open and 2009 USBC Queens. Barnes, a 13-time PBA champion, is the reigning WTBA World Champion in Masters. PBA and USBC Hall of Famer Williams is PBA's all-time career titles leader with 47 and has won record seven PBA Player of the Year awards.

The WTBA International Open featured a guaranteed prize fund of $100,000 with $20,000 going to the winner and $10,000 and $8,000 to the second and third place finishers, resp.
The 2012 World Bowling Tour organized by the World Tenpin Bowling Association consists of 14 tournaments in America, Asia, Europe and Australia - five in the United States and one each in Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Finland, France, Japan, Korea, Kuwait and Thailand.
Players earn ranking points based on how they finish in each event. The current points system is based on a continuous two-year cycle, so points earned in 2011 are added to points earned in 2012 to determine the points list.

The top three men and top three women will be invited to compete in the World Bowling Tour Finals presented by the Professional Bowlers Association at the end of 2012 featuring total prize fund of $70,000.
