Men's and women's finalists set for 2013 World Bowling Tour Finals

The three men and three women who will compete in the season-ending World Tenpin Bowling Association World Bowling Tour Finals was officially determined over the weekend as the regular season came to a close. The finalists were determined based on the World Bowling Tour points standings and will compete for a $70,000 prize pool on Nov. 3 in conjunction with the PBA World Series of Bowling V at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas.

2013WBTThailandSeanRashMikaKoivuniemi_small.jpgIn an all-PBA finale, reigning PBA Player of the Year Sean Rash (l.), United States, defeated two-time PBA Player of the Year Mika Koivuniemi (r.), Finland, 235-225 and 245-228, to win the World Bowling Tour Thailand event Monday at Blu-O Paragon bowling center in Bangkok. Rash received the one million Baht top prize (approx. $32,140) and earned his seventh career PBA title and the second international title of the 2012-2013 PBA/WBT season.

Tight race on men's side, women's field determined for World Bowling Tour finals

Sean Rash (l.) of the United States leads a tight grouping near the top of the men's points list, while Kelly Kulick (r.) has a stranglehold on the women's standings heading into the final event. The top three men and top three women will advance to the World Bowling Tour Finals in Las Vegas in Nov. 3.

The final two events of the WBT season will determine the top three men and top three women, who will compete in the World Bowling Tour Finals. The next event is the Columbia 300 Vienna Open, which will take place Sept. 30-Oct. 6 in Vienna, Austria.

Sean Rash, Kelly Kulick lead World Bowling Tour Point Ranking after U.S. Open

The U.S. Open was a major on the World Bowling Tour and awarded double points, allowing Kulick to pick up 80 points for a second-place finish. Kulick leads the women's division with 564 points. On the men's side, Rash leads the way with 562 points.

Johnson beats Malott in first-ever "Battle of the Sexes" special final match

The win marked the third U.S. Women's Open title for Johnson and first major victory for Malott. Johnson and Malott each earned $50,000 for winning their respective events and set up a special Battle of the Sexes match to crown the ultimate U.S. Open champion. Johnson earned an additional $10,000 by defeating Malott, 194-188.

Pete Weber, Kelly Kulick gear up for U.S. Open title defense

The defending champions will have a chance to add to their legacy next week. The men and women will compete side by side at this year's Bowling's U.S. Open at three bowling centers in the Columbus, Ohio, area starting Monday. The event will culminate with the live two-hour ESPN finals on July 27. Both tournaments are World Bowling Tour "majors".

The tournament, the eighth event on the 2013 World Bowling Tour schedule and one of the Tour's "major" tournaments, offered more than 215 million South Korean Won or approximately 190 U.S. Dollar.

Russell, who secured the No. 1 seed for the three-player stepladder finals with a 279 last game in the match play round, earned his first European Bowling Tour title, his first World Bowling Tour title and, due to an agreement between the PBA and the WTBA, his first career PBA international title.

Reigning PBA Player of the Year captures his sixth career PBA title

Rash, who won his sixth career PBA title, Rash struck eight times and took advantage of a big split by Koivuniemi in the 10th frame to seal the victory. Koivuniemi was consoled with $12,000.

WTBA announces addition of It's Daejeon International Open to WBT schedule

The preliminaries of the World Bowling Tour event were held at the world's biggest bowling center, 116-lane Inazawa Grandbowl in Inazawa City, Japan, while the Trios Shootout and the Men's and Women's TV Finals were staged on temporary lanes in an arena-style setting at Inazawa Futsal (Indoor Football) Stadium.

It was the 14th career PBA title, the fourth in Japan, and another big payday for Jones, who earned the PBA Player of the Year Award for 2005-06 after leading the Tour with $301,700, the third-highest single season earnings of all-time.

It was the second consecutive victory in the IBC for a Singaporean women after Ng's team mate on the national team, Cherie Tan, has won the 2012 event.

Japanese women, international men win Trios Shoot-out at International Bowling Championships

2013IBCTVSetup03_small.jpgThe best three local bowlers and the best three international bowlers outside the top five in the International Bowling Championships 2013 qualified for a Trios shoot-out in Baker format Saturday morning at Inazawa Futsal Stadium. The Japanese women beat the international team for the second year in the row, 204-170. The international men took revenge defeating the Japanese, 245-193. The winners split 200,000 Yen, while the second-place team received 100,000 Yen.
