Finals to feature experimental World Bowling scoring system

WBTLogo_small.jpgThe GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VI concludes with the introduction of an experimental scoring system being used by World Bowling during the telecast of the World Bowling Tour Men's and Women's Finals presented by the PBA Sunday, January 25 at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The top 3 men and three women in the WBT rankings earned their berths in the 2014 finals, based on a rolling two-year points ranking involving a series of tournaments held around the world.

Koivuniemi, Kulick win 2014 World Bowling Tour Finals titles

Experimental match play scoring system unveiled

2014WBTFinalsKulickKoivuniemi_small.jpgExperimental scoring system or not, veteran professional champions Mika Koivuniemi (r.) of Hartland, Mich., and Kelly Kulick (l.) of Union, N.J., proved great bowling prevails as winners of the fourth annual World Bowling Tour Men's and Women's Finals at the new South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas. The WBT Finals featured the top three men and top three women of the WBT point ranking who earned their berths in the finals through a two-year global competition points race.

World Bowling Tour Finals to showcase world's best bowlers

WBTLogo_small.jpgThe top-ranked bowlers in the world will be featured in the season-ending World Bowling Tour (WBT) Finals in November in the grand finale to the WBT season. The top three men and top three women in the WBT rankings were finalized over the weekend as the final stop on the 2014 schedule was held in Bangkok, Thailand. The finalists were determined based on the WBT points standings and will compete for a $70,000 prize pool on Nov. 1 or 2 in Las Vegas.

Osku Palermaa defeats Ryan Ciminelli twice to win his fourth PBA title in WBT Thailand event

Palermaa received 1 million Baht or approximately $31,240 for the victory. Ciminelli, who was looking for his third PBA title, was consoled with $31,240.

2014 World Bowling Tour concludes with WBT Thailand tournament

WBTLogo_small.jpg The 2014 World Bowling Tour, which consisted of 12 tournaments in Arabia (6), United States (3), Europe (2) and Asia (1), concluded with the WBT Thailand event August 25 in Bangkok. Players earned ranking points based on how they finished in each event. The top three men and top three women in the WBT Point Ranking advance to the WBT Finals, which will be contested the first weekend in November in Las Vegas as part of the PBA World Series of Bowling VI. The finals will air on national television in the United States.

Thailand event to finalize 2014 World Bowling Tour rankings

WBTLogo_small.jpgWith one event remaining, the 2014 World Bowling Tour schedule will come to a close next week with the top three men and top three women in the rankings earning spots in the World Bowling Tour Finals. The world's best players will descend upon Bangkok for the WBT Thailand event from Aug. 18-25 to finalize the rankings. Most of the spotlight will be shined on the men's division, which offers plenty of opportunity for players to still make the WBT Finals.

Top-seeded Larsen defeats England's Dom Barrett in the title match to claim the $25,000 top prize; Shannon O'Keefe (USA) captures the women's title; Aseel Al-Roomi (KUW) takes revenge in Youth final

The top qualifier sealed the victory in the first game of the championship match after Barrett suffered a split in the ninth frame which resulted in an open. Larsen, whose previous PBA title came in the 1st Abu Dhabi WBT in December 2013, received the $25,000 first prize.

Shaker Al-Hassan wins 12th Kingdom of Bahrain Bowling Championship from No. 1 seed

2014BAHShakerAlHassan3_small.jpg Shaker Al-Hassan (pictured), UAE, topped John Szczerbinski, United States, by two pins, 231-229, to win the 12th Kingdom of Bahrain Bowling Championship Friday at Ozone Entertainment Center in Sitra, Bahrain. Al-Hassan, who earned the No. 1 seed and the advantage that his opponent had to defeat him twice to win the title, won his first World Bowling Tour title and the $25,000 top prize. He does not receive credit for a PBA International Tour title because he isn't a PBA member.

Kelly Kulick, Sean Rash lead WBT Points Standings after USBC Masters, Emir Cup

Emir Cup in Qatar. Kulick, who picked up double points for her first-place finish among women at the USBC Masters, a WBT "major", has opened up a huge lead on the rest of the field. Rash continues to lead the men's division by a narrow margin over Mika Koivuniemi of Finland.

Barnes beats Singapore's New Hui Fen by 10 pins to capture his 17th PBA title, his third World Bowling Tour title and the $25,000 top prize

Emir Cup 2014 Friday evening at the Qatar Bowling Center in Doha. Barnes, who turned 44 three days ago, made himself a belated birthday present pocketing 25 Grand for the victory. It was his second PBA international title and the 17th PBA title of his illustrious career as well as his third title on the World Bowling Tour.

Big win for Mika Koivuniemi helps him narrow gap on Sean Rash in WBT Standings

Rash, who did not compete in Helsinki, has 657 points, while Koivuniemi picked up 50 points for the victory in his home country to move to 652 points. It was a record fourth victory at the Ballmaster for Koivuniemi.

The tournaments took place in Abu Dhabi (UAE), Doha (QAT) and in Riyadh (KSA). Rash, who did not compete in the GCC Swing, still leads the men's rankings with 663 points, but Finland's Mika Koivuniemi (r.) is hot on his heels with 637 points after bowling in all three events.

Tommy Jones shoots big games to win the 7th Kingdom International Open

PBA star defeats Hong Kong's Michael Mak twice to win his third World Bowling Tour title, the 15th PBA title of his career and $25,000

2013KSAOTommyJones3_small.jpgTommy Jones (pictured), United States, rolled two big games in the championship match of the 7th Kingdom International Open at Universal Bowling Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to defeat top-seeded Michael Mak of Hong Kong twice en route to win the title and the $25,000 top prize. It was the third World Bowling Tour title for Jones and also his 15th career PBA title. Jones defeated Mak, 247-218, to force a decider. In a strike fest, Jones sealed the victory with 268-258 win.

Dominic Barrett wins his 8th EBT and 3rd PBA title in 13th Qatar Bowling Open

Barrett, who entered the four-man playoffs as the No. 1 seed, fired games of 257 and 258 to defeat No. 3 seed, Mattias Olsson (r.) of Sweden, 515-467, in two games total pins format. Olsson received 14.400 Euro for second place.

No. 1 seed Larsen, who had to be defeated twice to win the title, lost the first game, 280-239, but rebounded with 247-204 win in game two to seal the victory. Larsen walked away with the 110,000 Dirham ($29,945). Koivuniemi pocketed 70.000 AED ($19,055).

WTBA announces preliminary 2014 World Bowling Tour Schedule

WBTLogo_small.jpgThe World Tenpin Bowling Association, bowling's governing body, has announced the preliminary 2014 World Bowling Tour schedule. The 2014 WBT will start with the PBA World Championship in Las Vegas later this month. The schedule currently features up to 17 events including up to 10 events in Arabic countries, three in the U.S., two in Europe and up to two in Asia. The final schedule will be announced at a later date.
