It's down to four in PBA Chameleon Championship

The semifinal and championship matches for the Professional Bowlers Association Chameleon Championship and PBA Women's Series presented by BOWL.COM Chameleon Championship were determined in best-of-seven game match play Thursday at Thunderbowl Lanes.
In the PBA Chameleon Championship Round of 8, 2005-06 PBA Rookie of the Year Bill O'Neill (pictured left), Southampton, Pa., defeated Hall of Famer and all-time Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour win leader Walter Ray Williams Jr., Ocala, Fla., 4-3 in a match that went down to the last frame of the last game.
O'Neill, who also bowled a 300 game in the fifth game of the match, admitted to having to thwart off a let-down after the perfect game. It was his second 300 of the day, having also bowled one in decisive seventh game of the previous match.
"After you throw a 300 it can be draining and I really tried hard to avoid that," said O'Neill, who made seven television appearances with two second-place finishes last season. "I really had to force myself to stay in the moment.
"It means so much to win against a player like Walter Ray in a situation like this."
In three other Round of 8 matches, Hall of Famer and 19-time PBA Tour titlist Amleto Monacelli (above right), Venezuela, defeated Andres Gomez, Colombia, 4-3; four-time Tour titlist Sean Rash (left), Wichita, Kan., defeated Chad Kloss, Greenfield, Wis., 4-2, and Ronnie Russell (right), Camby, Ind., defeated Brian Kretzer, Dayton, Ohio, 4-0.
Rash will bowl against Russell in one semifinal match Sept. 6 at Thunderbowl Lanes and O'Neill will take on Monacelli in the other.
In the Women's Series Chameleon Championship semifinal, 20-time women's professional bowling titlist Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, Keller, Texas, defeated Jodi Woessner, Oregon, Ohio, 4-3.
"Trying not to give opportunities away was the key in the match," Dorin-Ballard (pictured left) said, "but there was a period where I was leaving a lot of pocket splits, so I finally had to make a ball change in the fifth game and made a move inside. Jodi had a better look than I did and I needed to do something to start striking."
In the other women's semifinal match, nine-time Team USA member Shannon Pluhowsky (right), Phoenix, Ariz., defeated 12-time professional women's titlist Liz Johnson, Cheektowaga, N.Y., 4-2.
"I was telling Liz that every time we bowl against each other it's always exciting," Pluhowsky said. "It was a good back-and-forth match."
The Chameleon Championship semifinal and championship matches and the Women's Series Chameleon Championship match will both be conducted Sept. 6 at Thunderbowl Lanes and taped for airing on ESPN Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. ET.
Both championships were conducted as part of the PBA World Series of Bowling on PBA's Chameleon lane conditioning pattern.
