Michael Little overtakes the lead in men's division of AMF Australian Masters

    Lynda Barnes moves into second in women's division with three squads to go

The 2003 World Championships gold medalist in Masters, who has won the Australian Masters in 2002, started the penultimate qualifying day in fourth place with 1449 six-game total including his best three games series of 787 and 662.

    Little posted another 700-plus series as he added 709 to his high series of 787 overtake leader Chris Kirwin (pictured right), Northern Territory, by four pins with 1496 pinfall total and an average of 249.33.

    2010BWCPaulTottter2.jpgKirwin slipped to second place with 1492 and was followed by Jason Doust, Australian Capital Territory, and Robert Townsend, ACT, who fell to third and fourth place with 1485 and 1472, Respectively.

    Jarrod Lean, NSW, had series of 732 and 663 to jump into tenth place with 1395. Defending champion Paul Trotter (left), VIC, used series of 715 and 666 to crack the top 16 with 1381, good for 15th place. Rounding out the top 16 was Australian national team members George Frilingos with 1373 and an average of 228.83.

    2010AUSMastersRebeccaVoukolos4.jpgWith the last three squads to go on Friday at 9am, 10.30am and noon the cut for the Top 40, who will advance to the first round is 1319 (219.83 avg.).

    Rebecca Voukolos (right), Northern Territory, continued to lead the women's division with 1467, a 244.50 average, including high series of 770 and 697. Long-time Team USA member Lynda Barnes topped her previous high series of 709 with 714 to leap from ninth to second place with 1423 (237.17).

    Australian international Cassie Staudinger, Victoria, used series of 673 and 640 to overtake ninth place with 1313.

    2010PWCClaraGuerrero3.jpgTwo-time World Champion Clara Juliana Guerrero (right), Colombia, moved into 11th place with 1305. Former PWBA star Dana Miller-Mackie, United States, leaped into 13th place with 1287.

    The cut for the top 16 is currently 1261 (210.17) and 1134 (189.00) for the top 40.

    The AMF Australian Masters 2010 is incorporated in the 49th Australian Adult National Championship. This year the event, which has record entries, is sponsored by AMF with first prize for men of $25,000 and women $15,000 AUD.

    Bowlers qualify for the event over 6 games which must be taken from either a singles, doubles or mixed doubles block of 3 games. The bowlers' best two attempts make up their qualifying score. Qualifying ends on Friday, Oct. 29. The first round of the finals will start at 3pm.

    A total of 40 men and 40 women will advance to the finals. The defending champion and the State/Territory Masters winners cannot be eliminated from qualifying.

    The top 4 in each division will receive two byes to Round 3 while bowlers seeded positions 5 through 16 will receive one bye to Round 2. Bowlers filling qualifying positions 17 through 40 will compete in Round 1. No pinfall will carry over in any of the final rounds.

    In the event of a tie for fourth, 16th or 40th qualifying positions, a single game will be played to break the tie. Any subsequent tie will require a 10th frame playoff until the tie is broken.

    Bowlers 17 through 40 will bowl 6 games scratch to cut to the top 12 bowlers who will join bowlers seeded positions 5 through 16 in Round 2. These 24 bowlers will then play 6 games scratch. The top 12 bowlers on total pinfall meet the top 4 qualifiers in Round 3.

    These 16 bowlers will then play 6 games scratch. The top 8 bowlers on total pinfall will determine the champion in single-elimination best-of-five games match play. The field will be cut to 4 and then two players who will bowl for the 2010 AMF Australian Masters titles and the $25,000 and $15,000 AUD top prizes, respectively. The winners will also get free entry into the 2011 event.
