On Friday evening,, Sept. 2, at 8.00 p.n. local time, Guest of Honor, Mr. Tsang Tak-sing, Secretary for Home Affairs, declared open the 2011 Women's World Championships during the Opening Ceremonies at 48-lane Hong Kong Bowling City inside EMAX mall in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong, China.
Players, coaches and officials from 33 countries were officially welcomed by Ms. Vivien Lau , Chairman of the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress (HKTBC), Mr. Kevin Dornberger, President of the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA) and the Hon. Timothy Fok, IOC member and President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.

Following the national anthem of Hong Kong was the competitor's oath recited by Hong Kong's top bowler Vanessa Fung Ka Yee (pictured left) and the Technical Official's oath by head referee Leung Yuet Ming.
Players, coaches, officials, guests, supporters and spectators were then treated to a spectacular lion dance performance to celebrate the opening of the championships.
Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture, in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume. Each lion is operated by two people. Basic lion dance fundamental movements can be found in most Chinese martial arts.
Earlier on Friday, all players - divided into three squads - had one-and-a-half hours of practice on the two oil pattern chosen by Kegel's John Janawicz, who is the WTBA Technical Delegate for the 2011 WWC,

"JJ" has decided that the WTBA patterns "Seoul" and "Paris" will be used in Hong Kong. The 39-feet Seoul pattern is the second-shortest of the four "medium" WTBA certified lane patterns. With a length of 47 feet, Paris is the longest of all 12 certified patterns.
Singles will be played on "Paris" and Doubles will be contested on "Seoul", while Trios and Team will feature both oil patterns (3 games on each pattern). The Masters will be staged on dual lane condition (one lane dressed with the medium pattern and the other lane dressed with the long pattern).

The top four players and teams after six games in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team, respectively, will advance to the semifinals. The No. 1 meet No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3. The winners will determine the world champion, while losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are single-game matches.
