Mads Sandbækken, Norway. On the women's side, we wouldn't be surprised if the championship match would feature defending champion

The qualifying for the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup starts on Sunday morning at Bol 300, a brand new 32-laner in Hermosillo, Mexico. The field of 82 men and 63 women representing 85 countries has been divided into two men's squads and one women's squad. Squad B will take on the lanes at 8 a.m. local time for the first six-game block in the preliminaries. Squad A will follow at noon, while the women will start competition at 4 p.m. All competitors, men and women, will bowl four six-game blocks (24 games overall) over four days before the field is cut to the top 24 in each division on Wednesday. 
The 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will be held at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico from Nov. 7-15, 2008. 89 men and 65 women representing 91 countries have confirmed their participation in this year's event. Hermosillo is a city of 800,000 and is known as 'The Sun City'. It lies in the state of Sonora in the north of Mexico just 250 kilometers from the border with the USA. This will mark a record fifth time that the Bowling World Cup will be staged in Mexico after 1994 in Hermosillo, 1988 and 1968 in Guadalajara, and 1983 in Mexico City. The 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup starts on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. local time with official practice at Bol 300, a brand new 32-laner (pictured) in Hermosillo, Mexico. The 89 men will be divided into two groups. Group 1 bowl from 8 to 9.15 a.m. and Group B will follow after the men's briefing from 10.15 to 11.30 a.m. The 65 women will also be divided into two groups, which will be sandwiched around the women's briefing from 12.30 to 1.45 p.m. and 2.45 to 4 p.m. The official practice will be followed by the Opening Ceremonies and the Welcome Reception scheduled for 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

During her tenure on Team USA, Shannon Pluhowsky (l.) has been a familiar face at the QubicaAMF World Cup. This week, she'll make her fourth appearance at the event and looks to become the first bowler to capture the coveted title three times. Beginning Saturday, players from more than 90 countries will take to the lanes at 32-lane Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico. The 26-year-old left-hander will be joined by 2008 USBC Team Trials champion and two-time Team USA member Derek Eoff, who hopes to bring the men's title home to the United States for the second consecutive year. 
The Tenpin Bowling Federation of India, TBF (I), has announced that Rahul Solanki will be India's representative in the men's division of the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup. The prestigious event will be held at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico from Nov. 7-15, 2008. "In was always my opinion that tenpin bowling is a sport in which India has the ability and potential to have world-class athletes and hopefully champions in future. We hope that Rahul will be able to inspire others and contribute to the growth of the sport in our country", added Mr. Karti P. Chidambaram, President, TBF (I).
Top French bowlers Isabelle Sacco (nee Saldjian) and husband Francois Sacco, who got married in August, have booked their trip to the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico (Nov. 7-15, 2008). The couple won the French BWC qualifier October 19 and 20 at Orgeval, a state-of-the-art bowling center 15 miles west of Paris, which opened its doors in April. 64 men and 32 women advanced from regional eliminators to the final.
The World Tenpin Bowling Association has announced the dates and venues for the 2010 Men's World Championships and the 2011 Women's World Championships. The best male bowlers in the world will meet from August 11 through 22, 2010, at DreamBowl Palace in Munich, Germany. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will host the third Women's Worlds from August 31 through September 11, 2011. In conjunction with the WWC 2011 the FIQ and WTBA Congresses will be held. 
Blanka Hanusíková and Karel Kutina won the women's and men's QubicaAMF World Cup Qualifier at AMF Bowling in Pardubice, Czech Republic and will represent their country in the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico. 102 players battled it out for the two tickets to Hermosillo at the 18-laner in Pardubice from Sep. 19-21, 2008. The 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will take place at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico, from November 7-15, 2008. 
Beatrix Pesek (pictured) and Bertalan Puskás won the Hungarian Bowling World Cup Qualifier last Sunday in Székesfehérvár from No. 1 seed. 13 women and 45 men battled it out to represent Hungary in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico from Nov. 7-15, 2008. Pesek, who hasn't lost in a BWC qualifier since 2003, rolled 185 and 189 to come back from a 5-pin deficit against second seeded Franciska Vajda to win her sixth consecutive berth into the BWC, 374-357. Puskás secured his first appearance in the World Cup with a 464 to 415 victory against #4 Zoltán Skobrics. 
Malaysia's most potent bowlers currently -- Zulmazran Zulkifli and former world champion Esther Cheah -- will compete in the AMF World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico on Nov 7-15. The selection of Zulmazran and Esther by the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) proves the congress is serious about ending the country's 40-year-old AMF drought. 
Omer Oren and Mor Aviram will represent Israel in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup, which will be staged from November 7-15, 2008 in Hermosillo, Mexico. Oren won the Israeli BWC qualifier at Gan-Shmuel bowling center while Aviram lost to 16-year-old Shir Levi in the women's finals, two-games-to-one, to finish second. Shir will be unable to participate in Hermosillo for personal reasons and will be replaced by Mor Aviram. 
Lisanne Breeschoten and Maarten Pittens won the QubicaAMF World Cup national finals Sunday in Scheveningen, Netherlands. The winners will represent their country in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup from November 7-15, 2008 in Hermosillo, Mexico. Both players earned the No. 1 seed after round robin but lost the lead at halfway point of the position round matches against No. 2 seeds Haandrikman and Robin Geeris. Breeschoten and Pittens rebounded with a bunch of strikes in the second half to both win the matches and the tournament. 
Fernando Gutiérrez went to the AMF World Cup in 1992, and made the decision then and there. He wanted to host it someday. In fact, he wanted to host it at his bowling center as soon as possible. Given the prestige of the World Cup, this was not such an unusual ambition. It is the largest single-sport competition in the world, marking its 44th year this November. But it was an unusual request when Gutiérrez made it of the AMF powers-that be who had come to Le Mans in 1992, because Gutiérrez did not own a bowling center and never had.
Omer Oren and Shir Levy won the men's and women's division in the Israeli Bowling World Cup qualifier Thursday at Gan-Shmuel bowling center. After the 18-game preliminaries, Oren, 24, from Netanya, was seeded 8th spot for the 12-player single-elimination finals. He sidelined Aviv Alfital, Liad Leshem and No. 1 seeded Or Aviram to claim the men's title. 16-year-old Levy from Gan-Shmuel, seeded 1st, stunned Israel's 2006 BWC representative, Mor Aviram, the No. 2 seed, with a 2-1 victory (184-148, 166-170, 189-170) in the best-of-three game women's finals.
