Canada wins gold medals No. 4 and 5 in Trios, Mixed Doubles

The senior women and the super senior mixed doubles captured gold medals No. 4 and 5 for Canada while the senior men earned the second gold for Venezuela Thursday in the 2016 PABCON Senior and Super Senior Championships at Sebelén Bowling Center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Susan Grande, France Joubert and Jill Friis of Canada totaled 3289, an average of 182.72 win the gold medal in women’s senior trios. Friis led the trio with 1161 and was followed by Joubert with 1126 and Grande with 1002.

Veronica Berumen, who has won gold in singles and doubles (with Teresa Piccini), Margarita Ramos and Scarlett Padilla of Mexico and Sherlie Charles, Yvette Chen and Lizzette Abood of Panama tied for the silver medal at 3217 (178.72).

In the men’s senior trios event, Arturo Hernandez, Ricardo Gomez and Alfredo Rivas of Venezuela finished with a big 679 game to beat out the trio from the host country for the gold medal by just 16 pins, 3702 to 3686.

Hernandez led the way with 1315, Gomez added 1265 and Rivas contributed 1122. The Venezuelans averaged 205.67.

Rolly Sebelen, Jose Perez and Julio Goris of the Dominican Republic took the silver medal with 3686 (204.78), just 13 pins ahead of Mexico with Isaac Amkie, Mario Garcia and Alfonso Rodriguez, who got bronze with 3676 (204.06).

The 23 men and 17 women in the 3rd PABCON Super Senior Championships competed for the medals in mixed doubles.

Canada’s Jack Brace teamed with Marion Marco to win the fifth gold medal for Canada with 2327 and an average of 193.92. Brace, who won gold in doubles with Bob Puttick the day before, posted a 1325 series, an average of 220.83, out averaging his nearest competitor by almost 20 pins. Marco contributed 1002 pins.

Putting and Deb Linington were 51 pins behind their teammates to earn the silver medal with 2276. Bronze went to Colombia with Edgar Gomez and Nora Delgado, who toppled 2235 pins.

Action shifts to the four-player team events on Friday. The senior men and women compete in separate divisions, while the super senior men and women bowl in mixed teams. The team events also decide the medals in all-events and the eight players who advance to masters match play on Saturday.

2016PCSeniorSuperSeniorChampionshipsLogoThe 5th Pan American Bowling Confederation Senior Championships and the 3rd PABCON Super Senior Championships will take place from August 21-28, 2016, at Sebelén Bowling Center, a 22-laner in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The seniors (maximum four men and four women per country; must be 50 years and older in the year of the championship) will bowl for medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Teams, All-Events and Masters, while the super seniors (maximum two men and two women age 60 and older) will compete for medals in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Mixed Teams, All-Events and Masters.
