Gift For Life Scholarships awarded to 12 USBC Youth members

Twelve youth bowlers have been selected by the International Bowling Campus Youth Committee to receive Gift For Life Scholarships in 2016. All 12 of this year’s recipients are seniors in high school.

The Gift For Life Scholarships annually are awarded to 12 United States Bowling Congress Youth members who are in need of financial assistance to obtain a college education. Applicants must be current USBC Youth members in high school and have a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale).

To be considered for a Gift For Life scholarship, applicants were required to supply two letters of recommendation, submit an essay and discuss their community service efforts as part of the application process.

The 2016 Gift For Life Scholarship recipients are:

Kristen Blank, Molalla, Oregon
Emery Brock, Lowell, Arkansas
Mikayla Davis, Valdosta, Georgia
Nathan Duncan, Spokane Valley, Washington
Ashley Henderson, Tonawanda, New York
Ty’Tyana Lewis, Bossier City, Louisiana
Paige McCaslin, Eagle, Nebraska
Caitlin Neier, Blauvelt, New York
Rebecca Ratkowski, Waterford, Wisconsin
Kayla Stammer, Vermillion, South Dakota
Mariah Williams, Bloomington, New York

Each youth member selected will receive a $1,000 scholarship managed through the SMART program. In honor of the 9/11 heroes, at least two of the 12 scholarships each year are awarded to children of fire, police or emergency rescue personnel. This year, four of the recipients – Duncan, Neier, Ratkowski and Stammer – are the children of firefighters or police.
