Jesper Svensson historic as February Bowler of the Month

Jesper Svensson of Sweden has been chosen as the February 2016 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association.

Svensson defeated Mitch Beasley, Clarksville, Tennessee, 226-177, to become the youngest winner of the FireLake PBA Tournament of Champions. In the process, just days before his 21st birthday, the young Swede won his first major title on the PBA Tour and his third PBA title overall.

The television stepladder finals began with the fifth seed Tom Daugherty, Riverview, Florida, in a comeback win over fourth seed E. J. Tackett, Huntington, Indiana, 231-221. Daugherty ousted the third seed and defending champion Jason Belmonte, Australia, 220-169. The second seed Svensson downed Daugherty 245-206, setting up the title match.

Rounding out the month for the reigning PBA Rookie of the Year was a run at a second major PBA title two weeks later. Svensson took third place in the Barbasol PBA Players Championship.

Others obtaining consideration in close voting this month were Anthony Simonsen, winner of the USBC Masters, Graham Fach,winner of the PBA Players Championship, and Danielle McEwan and Dom Barrett, winners of the World Bowling Tour Finals.
