Fresh off his victory in the 16th Chinese Taipei International Open Michael Mak of Hong Kong defeated Hsu Chin-Tsai (left) of Chinese Taipei, 267-222, to win his second title within two days in the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Tour’s Chinese Taipei leg Sunday at Southern Bowling Center in Kaohsiung City.

By using the World Bowling scoring system Mak averaged over 250 for his four games, including a 287-233 victory over Chen Wu-Chi, Chinese Taipei, in the semifinals. Mak almost tossed the first 300 of the new scoring system but missed the head pin on his 10th shot.

In an all-Taiwanese women’s final, debutant Hsu Chun-Yi topped Tsai Hsin-Yi (right), 244-199, to become the first Taiwanese woman to win an ABF Tour title on Chinese Taipei soil.

All foreign players were eliminated in the first round. Hsu ousted Chinese Taipei Open champion, Huang Chiung-Yao, in the quarterfinal round, 245-190, and booked her spot in the final with a narrow 213-207 win against Chien Hsiu-Lan.

The top 16 men and women in the 16th Chinese Taipei International Open determined the ABF Tour Chinese Taipei leg champion in single-elimination match play.

The leg featured 14 men from Chinese Taipei against two Hong Kong stars, while there were 13 women from Chinese Taipei competing against two from Macau and one from Hong Kong.

Both champions received US$1,000 apiece while the runner-ups got US$500. The losers of the semi-finals garnered US$250 each.

Mr. Wu Fu-Lung, President of the Chinese Taipei Bowling Association presented the trophy and prizes to the women’s winners while Ms. Vivien Lau, ABF Tour Committee Chairman and secretary general of World Bowling gave away the trophy and prizes to the men’s winners.

The 2016 Asian Bowling Federation Tour consists of six legs for both men and women and four ranking tournaments for men only. Only Asian bowlers are eligible to participate in the ABF Tour.

Players earn ranking points based on how they finish in each event. The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2016 season qualify for the ABF Tour Tournament of Champions scheduled for March 2017 (tbc) in Kuwait.

The 2016 ABF Tour commences with the Hong Kong leg, which will be held July 18 at SCAA Bowling Center in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
