Heidi Thorstensen (left) was the only other player who surpassed the 1300-mark. Thorstensen, who will represent Norway at the 52nd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Shanghai, China, rebounded from a very slow start (167, 188 and 179) with back-to-back 246 and 235 for 1261 (210.17 average) and added 48 pins women’s handicap for 1309 total.
As the World Cup starts on Sunday, Thorstensen would be unable to bowl in the finals of the Norwegian Open.
Long-time national team member Glenn Morten Pedersen (right) was third with 1262 and was followed by Grace Kristiansen in fourth place with 1240, including handicap. Rounding out the top 5 was Ronny Olavesen with 1233.
Qualifying continues on Saturday, Oct. 8, with squads 2, 3 and 4 scheduled to start at 11 a.m., 2.30 and 6 p.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST).
The Norwegian Open 2016 by Brunswick is the 15th and penultimate stop of the 2016 European Bowling Tour and the last of six EBT “Satellite” tournaments this season. The tournament runs from Oct. 7-16 at Veitvet Bowling Center, a 26-laner in Norway’s capital city of Oslo.
The tournament offers total prize fund of 239.000 Norwegian Kronor (approx. 26.715 Euro) with 40.000 NOK (approx. 4.471 Euro) going to the winner and a last-to-cash payout of 1.000 Kronor or 111 Euro for 60th place.
As the event clashes with the 52nd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Shanghai, China, there will be no onsite coverage of the Norwegian Open this year.
Qualifying of the Norwegian Open begins Friday, Oct. 7 and concludes Saturday, Oct. 15 with the final Squad 23 scheduled for 5 p.m. local time (CEST).
Women receive 8 pins handicap each game (maximum is 300), an equality handicap provided to women in all EBT events. Top 3 women after qualifying will receive 5.000 NOK, 3.000 NOK and 2.000 NOK bonuses, respectively.
Total 60 players will advance to the finals on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 & 16:
Top 8 qualifiers will be seeded in Round 4, qualifiers 9-16 go to Round 3, qualifiers 17-24 start in Round 2 and qualifiers 25-28 begin in Round 1.
The other 32 finalists advance to Saturday’s semifinal round which begins at 9 p.m. CEST. All players bowl six games scratch with the top 12 advancing to Final Round 1 starting on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
The remaining forty players will determine the champion in five three-game rounds (rounds 1-4 starting from scratch). The field will be trimmed to 32, 24, 16, and then eight players who bowl a final three-game block with the pinfall from Round 4 being carried forward.
The player with the highest six-game total will earn the title, the 40.000 NOK top prize and 50 EBT ranking points (men and women in separate rankings).

The 2016 European Bowling Tour currently consists of 16 tournaments in 11 countries featuring three “Platinum” events, three “Gold”, four “Silver” and six “Satellite” events. All tournaments together offer total prize fund of roughly 850.000 Euro.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will be eligible to compete in the 10th EBT Masters May 29, 2017, at Lovvang Bowling Center in Aalborg, Denmark.
