Posadas, Shin win Masters titles at 30th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship

Lara Posadas of Paranaque City, Philippines, and Shin Soon Chul of Daegu, Korea, captured the women’s and men’s titles in the masters competition of the 30th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship which concluded the event at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The top 16 men (out of 55) and the top 16 women (out of 36) in all-events (total pinfall in singles, doubles and team event) advanced to the masters finals in best-of-three games format.

Posadas, who won gold in team and all-vents, silver in doubles and bronze in singles, swept No. 10 Vanessa Wong of Macau, China, 174-142 and 193-156, to earn her third title in this Championships.

In the men’s finale between the two top-seeded players, Shin defeated singles and all-events champion Jimmy Cheung of Hong Kong, China, 244-226 and 203-189 for a 2-0 victory. It was the third gold medal for Shin, who also won the titles in doubles and team.

The 30th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship was held at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia, from Oct. 25-31, 2016.

Thirteen member cities of the Asian Intercity Bowling Council (Belait City, Brunei Darul Salam: Daegu City, Korea; Happy Valley, Hong Kong City and the New Territories, Hong Kong; Kuala Lumpur City and Shah Alam, Malaysia; Macau; Paranaque City and Pasay City, Philippines; Singapore and Guam) along with three guest cities (Bandar Seri Bagawan, Brunei Darul Salam; Wuhan City and Yancheng City, China) participated in the competition Oct. 27-30.

The championship was divided into four divisions – Men, Women, Senior Men and Senior Women – and featured four events: Singles, Doubles, Team of Four and Masters. The top 16 players from each division based on the all-events standings (18 games in Singles, Doubles and Team event) qualified for the masters finals in best-of-three games format.

The men’s champion team, women champion team and the overall champion city based on the medal tally were awarded the Men’s Seotopo Cup, Women’s Seotopo Cup and the Overall Seotopo Cup.
