Rickle Kam shoots 300 to win 2016 Macau China International Open

2016MacaoOpenRickleKam2.jpg2016MacaoOpenDaisukeYoshida.jpgTop-seeded Rickle Kam of Hong Kong thrilled the spectators at COTAI Bowling Center in Macau, China, with a perfect game in his 300-249 victory over Daisuke Yoshida (right) of Japan in the men’s championship match of the 2016 Macau China International Open. It was the sixth perfecto of the event.

The women’s title went to Novie Phang of Indonesia, who defeated Jang Ha Eun in the second and deciding game, 224-166, after losing the first game against the Korean, 192-170.

As the No. 1 seed, Kam and Phang needed to be beaten twice to be denied the masters title. Kam, who cruised to the No. 1 seed by averaging over 240 in round 2, earned MOP$70,000 (approx. US$9,000) along with his first career international open title, while third-seeded Yoshida took home MOP$30,000 for the runner-up effort.

The 2016 Macau China International Open drew 78 men and 41 women. The top six men and the top six women battled it out for the title in a stepladder final.

In the opening shoot-out match of the men’s final, No. 5 Lee Dong Eun of Korea (203) ousted No. 6 Badin Lerdpiriyasakulkit of Thailand (199) and compatriot No. 4 Lee Won Seok (179). Yoshida then eliminated Lee and second-seeded Jimmy Cheung of Hong Kong, 227-205-186, for the right to bowl Kam for the title.

On the women’s side, defending Macao Open champion and No. 4 seed, Lee Young Seung of Korea flew past her compatriot No. 5 Jang Ryeon Gyeong and No. 6 Milki Ng of Hong Kong, 268-181-205, to advance to the second match.

Jang rolled a 226 game to end Lee’s run (180) and to eliminate the Korean and No. 3 Sharon Limansantoso (211) of Indonesia.

The top 16 Asian men and top 16 Asian women finishers of Round qualified for the ABF Tour Macau 2016.
