Daisuke Yoshida of Japan and Korea’s Lee Young Seung took full advantage of the World Bowling scoring system which debuted on the Asian Bowling Federation Tour when they captured their first ABFT title in Macau, China.

The 24-year-old Yoshida (pictured left) averaged 274.66 over three games to reach the men’s championship match in which he defeated Cheng Hsing Chao (right with Yoshida) of Chinese Taipei, 245-218, to cruise to the title. 2015 Macau Open champion Lee Young Seung of Korea claimed the women’s title in her first ABF Tour event, when she topped Cheng’s fellow countrywoman Wang Ya Ting, 223-190.

The top 16 men and women in the Macau China International Open determined the ABF Tour Macau leg champion in single-elimination match play.

Yoshida posted the highest game of the tournament in a 289-246 first-round victory over Annop Arromsaranon of Thailand. The Japanese national team member followed with a 278-232 win against 2010 Macau leg champion Joshua Chow of Hong Kong and a 257-245 in his semi-final match against Korea’s Lee Won Seok, 257-245.

Cheng, who needed to strike in his 10th frame to beat Hong Kong’s Wu Siu Hong, 234-223, posted two big scores in the first and second round to eliminate Badin Lerdpiriyasakulkit of Thailand, 277-191, Korea’s Lee Dong Eun, 265-232.

Lee (left), 20, who fell short to defend her Macau Open title finishing in fourth place, put together five strikes in the women’s title match which was enough to beat Chinese Taipei spinner, Wang Ya Ting.

On her way to the title match, Lee sidelined her compatriot Kim Hyun A in the opening match, 246-231, before defeated 2011 Macau leg champion, Julia Lam, in a close quarterfinal match, 257-252. She earned her berth into the final with a 243-199 victory over Kim Mi Ae in an all-Korean semi-final match.

Wang (pictured right with Lee) flew past Jang Ryeon Gyeong of Korea in the opening round, 265-188, and went on to defeat Sharon Limansantoso of Indonesia in the second round, 211-203, before denied Jang Ha Eun‘s bid for an all-Korean final, 242-204.

Both champions received US$1,000 apiece while the runner-ups got US$500. The losers of the semi-finals garnered US$250 each.

The 2016 Asian Bowling Federation Tour consists of six legs for both men and women and four ranking tournaments for men only. Only Asian bowlers are eligible to participate in the ABF Tour.

Players earn ranking points based on how they finish in each event. The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2016 season qualify for the ABF Tour Tournament of Champions scheduled for March 2017 (tbc) in Kuwait.

The 2016 ABF Tour commences with the Chinese Taipei leg, which will be held July 10 in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei.
