2016PBAJasonBelmonteIn a marquee international matchup between two players who use a two-hand delivery, Jesper Svensson of Sweden defeated three-time reigning PBA Player of the Year Jason Belmonte of Australia Wednesday to join seven other players who advanced to the PBA Scorpion Championship presented by Reno Tahoe USA Round of 8 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev.

Svensson, who already at 21 years of age owns five career PBA Tour titles including three this season, handed Belmonte (right) a 3-1 loss in the best-of-five-game single elimination Round of 16 match (267-206, 192-257, 244-220, 255-248).

2016PBAJesperSvensson“I got off to a good start but struggled in the second game,” said Svensson (pictured left and above). “I switched to a different ball in the second game but ended up going back to my original ball and was able to strike out to win so I felt fortunate to win that game.

“I had some breaks in the last game and Jason was a bit unlucky,” the 2015 PBA Rookie of the Year added. “The breaks can work for you or against you but this time they came out the way I wanted. At this point in the tournament you just throw the ball the best you can and hope you can keep going.”
