Larsen (above) started his six-game series with 214, 213 and 168 and closed with 279, 300 and 246 to tie Ricardo Lecuona (right) of Mexico at 1420, an average of 236.67. Cho Youngseon of Korea hit 1400 on the nose, good for fifth place overall. Defending World Games champion Osku Palermaa was further three pins behind to make the first cut in sixth place.
His compatriot and fellow World Champion in the five-player team event in 2013, Juhani Tonteri closed his set with back-to-back 248 games to weather a strong charge by Jeffrey van de Wakker, Netherlands, and to take the 16th and final spot to advance with 1353 and an average of 225.50.
Van de Wakker closed his series with 261, but fell short with 1339.
