Yelena Zemtsova and Ilya Orlov captured the women’s and men’s titles at the 2016 Kazakhstan Cup which was held July 20 at Bowling Center MV in Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan, with a population of 1.7 million people.

The tournament, which was the sixth stop of the Kazakhstan Bowling Tour, served as qualifying event for the 2016 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup and drew 14 men and five women.

All players bowled two six-game blocks on a 42 ft. lane condition pattern to determine one man and one woman, who will represent Kazakhstan at the 52nd edition of the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup, which will be held October 14-23, 2016, at Hao’s Bowling in Shanghai, China.

Orlov (right) averaged 217.58 to lead the men’s division with 2611 total, including 1335 and 1276, the highest six-game series in each block. Orlov out averaged his nearest competitor, Gennadiy Vologin, who was second with 2474, by more than 11 pins. He earned his second berth into the World Cup after 2014.

Local favorite Zemtsova (above left), a seven-time Kazakhstan champion, took a 38-pin lead in the women’s field after the first block with 1082 added 1048 to earn her first ticket to the World Cup with 2130 total and an average of 177.50. Natalya Mandritsa was 75 pins behind to finish in second place on 2055.

Prior to the World Cup, Hao’s Bowling in Shanghai will host the China Open Oct. 7-12 and the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Tour China leg on Oct. 13.
