Korea earns No. 1 seed for men's and women's Team Final at 3rd Asian Indoor Games

Saturday's finals to conclude bowling competition in Vietnam

Korea targets to sweep the gold medals in the 4-player team event at the 3rd Asian Indoor Games as both teams, men and women, earned the No. 1 seed for the single-elimination finals on Saturday at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam.

Choi Bok-Eum, Cho Young Seon, Jang Dong-Chul and Kim Tae-Young posted a field-best 2749 series on short oil to jump from fourth to first place in a span of three games. The Koreans totaled 5405 pins, an average of 225.21 over six games.

The Kuwaitis matched Korea's leapfrog as the Arabs used a 2569 series to move from fifth to second place with 5219 (217.46). Malaysia, who led the field of 18 teams after the first block on long oil yesterday, slipped to third place with 5203 (216.79) behind a 2440 series on short.

Rounding out the top 4 was the team from the UAE, which rolled the second-highest 2690 series for 5195 (216.46). The Korean women, Son Yun-Hee, Gang Hye-Eun, Jeon Eun-Hee and Hwang Sun-Ok, who held a 105-pin lead after the first block on long oil, (2593) also posted the highest block on short oil (2592) to earn the No. 1 seed by 371 pins. The Koreans felled 5185 pins and averaged 216.04.

The Malaysians overtook Japan with a 2340 today to land in second place with 4814 (200.58). Japan slipped just one spot despite a 2295 series and avoided a clash with the Koreans in the semis with 4783 (199.29).

The team from Hong Kong held off a strong charge from Chinese Taipei to earn the fourth and final spot with 4743 (197.63).

The top 4 women's teams and the top 4 men's teams will return on Saturday for the semifinals. The No. 1 seed bowls the No. 4 seed and No. 2 takes on No. 3. The winners will bowl for the title and the losers will share the bronze medal.

The 3rd Asian Indoor Games drew 73 men and 49 women from 20 countries, who will bowl for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles and 4-Player team event.
