Team USA's Bill O'Neill started the 2010 Men's World Championships with victory in Singles Saturday at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany. The reigning U.S. Open champion defeated Choi Bok-Eum, Korea, 244-202, to capture the first gold medal of the Championships. Bok-Eum, who has won the gold medal in All Events at the 2008 MWC in Thailand, received the silver medal. Dominic Barrett, England, and Chris Barnes, United States, fell to O'Neill and Choi in the semis and shared the bronze medal.

$1 million prize fund, tournament format, eligibility rules set for record-setting event
The Professional Bowlers Association is gearing up for the richest tournament in professional bowling history, the $1 million PBA Tournament of Champions, and for the first time is creating an opportunity for any player who has ever won a PBA title to take a shot at the record $250,000 first prize. The PBA Tournament of Champions will be conducted Jan. 16-22, 2011 at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas, Nev., and it will feature an all-new format featuring a "Champions" field to determine the players who will advance to the "Elite" field.

More than 350 players from 65 countries iwere celebrated Thursday night as the opening ceremonies officially ushered in the 2010 WTBA World Men's Championships at Dream Bowl Palace, a 52-lane bowling center in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany. The Championships begin with the Singles event Friday morning. Qualifying will take place over five squads (three Friday and two Saturday) with the top four players after six games advancing to the semifinals Saturday afternoon.

After Egypt's withdrawal, the Championships will feature players from record 68 countries, who will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team, All-Events and Masters from Aug. 11 through 22, 2010. Canada will be one of a record 68 countries that are registered to compete in the 2010 Men's World Championships. The president of World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA, Kevin Dornberger (pictured right), United States, and the President of World Ninepin Bowling Association (WNBA), Ludwig Kocsis, Austria, have made discussions in several conversations and meetings about the future of the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ) and/or Tenpin and Ninepin. The result of these conversations is a proposal which was sent to all WTBA and WNBA member federations.
