Jacqueline Sijore (pictured left with the gold medal and the mascot) of Malaysia became the first world champion of the 2011 Women's World Championships in Hong Kong, China, when the 19-year-old rookie defeated 2009 World Champion (Team) Son Yun-Hee (r.), Korea, 266-217, Sunday afternoon at Hong Kong Bowling City.

Both players alternated strikes and single-pin spares in the first three frames. All strikes were on lane 33 and all spares on lanes 34, both dressed with long oil (Paris pattern).

When Son struck on the right lane for the first time it automatically resulted in a three-bagger. However, it should remain her only strike on that lane until the fill ball.

Sijore started to strike in frame four and reeled off nine consecutive strikes to put the match away well before the final frame. Son had single-pin spares in the sixth, eighth, ninth and tenth frame, which sealed her fate. The Korean had to settle for the silver medal.

In the semifinals, Sijore (left), seeded fourth, stunned No. 1 seed, Shayna Ng (right), Singapore, 246-214. Ng, who posted a record 1601 series in the preliminaries, an average of 266.83 for six games, started with a strike but got her first double in the sixth and seventh frame.

Though the Singaporean had no open frame in the match, she was down by 40 pins in the eighth frame due to Sijore's six-bagger in frames 4-9. When Ng failed to strike in the ninth the match was over.

The other semifinal was a strike-fest that was decided in the final frame. Mai Ginge Jensen /left), Denmark, seeded third, had the front six, a single-pin spare in the seventh frames and another strike in the eighth frame.

No. 2 seed Son (right) started with a pair of spares then reeled of seven consecutive strikes to tie Jensen at 189 in the seventh frame. Finishing first, the Dane struck in the ninth and tenth frame, where a 10-pin fell late, and finished with 9spare to force the Korean to do minimum the same.

Son's answer was better than that as she went off the sheet to win the game, 279-268. Ng and Jensen shared the bronze medal.
