Bergès, Manico cruise to victory in Swiss World Cup Qualifier

Mathieu Bergès and Bigi Manico (pictured left) won the men's and women's division of the Swiss World Cup Qualifier at Bowling Beseco in Rümikon-Winterthur last weekend and will represent Switzerland at the 47th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup later this year. The last time Bergès and Manico have bowled together on a World Cup was 2004 in Singapore.
46 men and 15 women qualified for the finals On Sept. 3 and 4 and rolled three four-game blocks to cut to 12 men and 12 women, who advanced to the match play round. The top six men and women after 23 games including bonus determined the champion in the final match play round over five games.
Bergès was third in the, men's qualifying averaging 218.92 for 12 games. He improved his average to 227.80 to take a comfortable 240 pins lead after 23 games winning eight of his eleven matches in the semifinals.
The Swiss national team member defeated five of his four opponents in the final match play round to finish with 6613 total including 320 bonus (20 per win plus 5 pins extra for games over 200) and an average of 224.75.
Cédric Regenass was a distant second at 6320 with Daniel Hürlimann in third at 6250.
Manico, who has attended numerous World Cups in her career, led the women's division from wire to wire to cruise to victory. Manico averaged 204.82 for 28 games and totaled 6025 pins including 290 total bonus to beat out Valérie Cornuz for the title by 328 pins.
Cornuz was second with 5697 and Joëlle Company third with 5556.
The 47th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup will take place at Northcliff Bowling Center in Johannesburg, South Africa, from Nov. 30 - Dec. 7, 2011.
