Marcus Arndt cracks top 4 on day two qualifying at Chandra Open

    Spil, Stinissen hold on to the lead; cut for 30th place is 1139

    2011EBT16MarcusArndt.jpgMarcus Arndt (pictured left), Netherlands, was the sole player, who cracked the top 4 on day two qualifying of the Chandra Open 2011 Tuesday evening at Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherlands.

    Arndt had games of 185, 205, 268, 166, 246 and 202 to lead Squad 2 with 1272 six-game total, an average of 212, to move into third place in the qualifying standings. The top 4 after Wednesday's Squad 3 will earn automatic berths into the finals on Sunday.

    With 52 players - 56 men and six women - in the books, the top 9 places belong to Dutch bowlers.

    Squad 1 leaders, Johnny Spil (1311) and Michell Stinissen (1291), remained atop the leaderboard with Phil Hulst in fourth with 1269.

    With another eight squads to go - Squad 4 and 5 on Thursday have been cancelled - the cut for 30th and last place to advance is 1139 (189.83) by Ramon Hilferink, Netherlands.

    Qualifying continues Wednesday, Sept. 21 with Squads 3 scheduled for 8 p.m. CET.

    2011ChandraOpenLogo.jpg The Chandra Open is a newcomer on the European Bowling Tour and will be held Sept. 19-25, 2011 at 16-lane Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, The tournament is the 16th stop of the 2011 Tour and the fifth out of six EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season.

    The tournament offers total prize fund of 24.600 Euro with 5.000 Euro going to the winner and 3.000 Euro to the runner-up, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive 2.000 Euro and 1.000, respectively.

    Since the English Open has lost its EBT status, the 2011 European Bowling Tour consists of 20 tour stops in 16 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, six Silver and six Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the Chandra Open gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2011 season qualify for the fifth EBT Masters to be held at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany on April 30 and May 1, 2012. The event will become the first EBT Masters to be contested on single lane condition.

    Qualifying of the Chandra Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Monday, Sept. 19 through Saturday, Sept. 24 with the last Squad 12 scheduled for 6 p.m. CET and concludes with the Desperado Squad slated for 9.30 p.m. Women will receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 38 players will advance to the finals on Sunday, Sept. 25 - the top 30 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 from a separate leader board of Squad 1-3, and the top 4 from the Desperado Squad. The top 6 qualifiers earn one bye.

    The other 32 players will bowl six games starting from scratch with the top 10 advancing to the second round. The top 10 from Round One and the top six qualifiers will bowl six games starting from scratch to cut to the top 8.

    Those eight will bowl another six-game block with the pinfall from Round Two being carried forward. The player with the highest 12-game total will be declared the winner.
