2013EBTMastersTonyRantaLisanneBreeschoten_small.jpgTop-seeded Tony Ranta (l.) of Finland and Lisanne Breeschoten (r.) of the Netherlands captured the men's and women's titles and the 4.000 Euro top prize in the 6th EBT Masters, which was held Monday, Sept. 30, at BNC Bowling Center in Bratislava, Slovakia. In the men's finals, Ranta topped defending champion Martin Larsen of Sweden, 253-179, while Breeschoten prevailed by two pins over Ida Andersson, Sweden, 178-176, to claim the women's title.

Fresh off his victory in the Round1 Japan Cup, Mika Koivuniemi (pictured) of Finland defeated fellow countryman Tony Ranta in the title match of the 12th Qatar Bowling Open, 544-471, en route to win his second consecutive PBA International title and the 11th PBA title of his career Saturday at Qatar Bowling Center in Doha. The two-time PBA Player led Final Round 1 & 2 to capture the No. 1 seed for the playoffs. Koivuniemi pocketed 30.000 for the victory while Ranta received 14.400 Euro for second place.

Germany's Birgit Pöppler wins qualifying of 12th Qatar Bowling Open

Pöppler seals victory in EBT women's rankings; PBA champions Fagan, Barnes, Barrett move into top 9 on final qualifying day; cut for 36th place is 1302 (217 average)

2012ECCBirgitPoppler3_small.jpgBirgit Pöppler (pictured left9 of Germany remained unchallenged Friday at the Qatar Bowling Center in Doha en route to win the qualifying of the 12th Qatar Bowling Open with 1464 total including 48 pins handicap. The German national team member, who averaged 236 scratch, leads a group of 48 players out of a field of 142 players from 26 countries into Saturday's finals. By virtue of qualifying as one of seven women for the finals, Pöppler has sealed the victory in the 2012 European Bowling Tour women's point ranking.

Five players move into the top 9 on Thursday; PBA stars have entered the tournament; cut for 36th place is now 1289 (214.83 average)

The current European Bowling Tour women's point ranking leader averaged 254 for the last five games to leap eight spots and to pace the field of 132 players from 25 countries. Qualifying continues Friday, Dec. 14 with Squads 15-17 and concludes with the Desperado Squad slated for 11 p.m. Arabia Standard Time.

Two-time World Cup champion Aumi Guerra (pictured left, 1356) of the Dominican Republic and Hussain Al-Suwaidi (1319), UAE, set the pace in the first two of 17 qualifying squads and earned automatic berths in the finals on Saturday, Dec. 15.

The tournament will be held from Dec. 9-15, 2012 at 32-lane Qatar Bowling Center. Players will compete for total prize fund of 125.000 Euro with 30.000 € going to the winner. As the Qatar Open is also the second event of the 2013 World Bowling Tour, the tournament will also award a PBA international title if won by a PBA member.

Amedeo Spada wins qualifying at Florence International

Italian leads 296-player field from 22 countries with 1470 (245 average); total 50 players advance to Sunday's finals

Spada, who owns one European Bowling Tour title, posted a 1470 series in Squad 14 including the lone 300 game of the tournament so far to finish atop the leaderboard of 296 players, 264 men and 32 women, from 22 countries. The top 38 qualifiers will be joined in the finals by eight Italian bowlers and the top four of the Desperado Squad.

Amedeo Spada (pictured) of Italy rolled the first 300 game in the 1st Florence International and become the first player who cracked the 1400-bar Tuesday night at Crazy Bowling in Florence, Italy. The long-time Italian national team member started his six-game block in Squad 14 with games of 247, 227, 233 and 257. After a low game of 206 Spada rebounded with twelve consecutive strikes for 1470 total, an average of 245, to rocket to the top of the 187-player leaderboard as qualifying has reached its halfway mark.

The Italian national team member sandwiched back-to-back 218, a high game of 264 and 201 between a pair of 180s in Squad 2 to lead a field of 78 players from Austria, Italy, Philippines, Romania and Slovenia with 1264 pinfall total and an average of 210.67. Qualifying continues Sunday, Nov. 4 with Squads 5-9 scheduled for 8 a.m., 11.30 a.m., 3, 6.30 and 10 p.m. CET.

Players will compete for total prize fund of 29.960 Euro with 5.500 € going to the winner. Qualifying runs from Saturday, Nov. 3 through Saturday, Nov. 10. Total 50 players will qualify for the finals on Sunday, Nov. 11. The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 19 events in 16 countries.

Peter Hellström cruises to victory at 2012 Norwegian Open by Brunswick

2012EBT17Podium_small.jpgPeter Hellström (2nd from left) averaged 249 for his last six games to cruise to victory at the Norwegian Open 2012 by Brunswick Sunday at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo, Norway. The Swede sealed the victory with a huge 275 in game six and received 30.000 Norwegian Kronor for his second career EBT title. Britt Brøndsted of Denmark finished second and Mikael Roos of Sweden third. The tournament drew 180 players, 149 men and 31 women, from ten countries.
