Three-time PBA champion Osku Palermaa (pictured left) of Finland averaged 252.33 and toppled 1514 pins in the penultimate qualifying squad of the 6th QubicaAMF Open 2012 Saturday afternoon at Gladiator Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia, en route to win the qualifying and a 1.000 Euro bonus.

The two-hander, who won his first PBA title in the 2010-11 PBA World Series of Bowling, added two more titles this season, the PBA World Championship for his first major title, and the Kuwait Open, the first international PBA title since the PBA Tour's new alliance with the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA). Palermaa has also won 11 European Bowling Tour titles.

Palermaa, who finished third in the 4th and 5th QubicaAMF Open, started his series with 23 strikes for the fourth 300 game of the tournament followed by a 299 game. He closed things out with 254 (853 for the first three games), 246, 224 and 191.

Trailing the Finn by 75 pins to land in second place was PBA Hall of Famer Brian Voss (right), United States, who totaled 1439. The 25-time PBA champion and three time EBT champion was followed by Frederik Øhrgaard, Denmark, in third place with 1437 and Squad 1 leader Michael Loos, Austria, in fourth place with 1424.

Swedish internationals Mikael Kanold (left) and Peter Ljung (right) were next to Palermaa in Squad 11 with 1415 and 1407 to jump into fifth and sixth place overall, respectively.

Thomas Gross (below left with wife Ivonne), Austria, and Latvian two-hander Daniel Vezis, who both had a 300 game and a 1393 series, slipped to seventh and eighth place, resp. Dane Thomas Larsen was one pin behind in ninth place with 1292.

Rounding out the top 10, who will bypass the first two rounds of the finals, was Swede Mattias Olsson with 1386 or an average of 231.

Anže Grabrijan (right), who posted a 1368 series in Squad 1, was the top Slovenian bowler in the field of 117 players in 13th place. Ivonne Gross, Austria, who rolled the second of four 300 games in the tournament and the lone by a woman, was the top female finisher with 1364 including 48 pins handicap, good for 15th place.

Ben Fishler (left) of Israel was the best of four players of the last qualifying quad (12) on Saturday evening, who survived the first cut. Fishler toppled 1361 pins, good for 16th place. Rounding out the top 20, who earned one bye was Marco-Cesare Parapini, Italy, with 1338.

Kert Truus (right) of Estonia tied for the cutoff number by leading Squad 10 with 1309 pinfall total and an average of 218.17. Truus finished in 29th place as he had the higher last game than Bianca Wiekeraad, Netherlands, who took the 30th and last place to advance.

Wiekeraad (left) and her compatriot Nicole Sanders, who survived from the Squad 1-6 leaderboard, will battle it out with Ivonne Gross for the women's ranking title.

Slovenians Bojan Kovac and Nino Stenko led the single-game Desperado Squad Saturday night with 255 and 246 and were followed by Rainer Pichl, Germany (235) and Nicola Galeone, Italy (222) en route to grab the last four spots for Sunday's finals.
