Thierry Sacco, Mark Jonasdofsky add their names to the leaderboard in San Marino

    Italian Renato Bortolon holds on to the lead after 4/21 qualifying squads; cut for 35th place is currently 1166 (194.44 average)

    2012EBT11RenatoBortolon.jpg2012EBT11ThierrySacco.jpgRenato Bortolon (pictured left) of Italy leads the qualifying of the 8th Storm San Marino Open after the first weekend with 1329 six-game total and an average of 221.50. The top four players after the first four of total 21 qualifying squads are automatically qualified for the finals on Sunday, July 15.

    Bortolon, who led the second quad on Saturday, leads Thierry Sacco (right) of France and Mark Jonasdofsky of Germany by 12 and 18 pins, respectively. Sacco topped Squad 4 Sunday evening at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle with 1317.

    The long-time French international started his set with 234, 206, 248, 225 and 230 but fell 12 pins short of the lead after finishing with 174. Jonasdofsky closed his series with 222 to narrow the gap to six pins with 1311.

    2012EBT04YoanAlix2.jpg2010EBT11AmedeoSpada.jpgRounding out the top 5 were Yoan Alix (left), France, and Amedeo Spada (right), Italy, who were tied at 1295. Alix was seeded fourth due to the higher last game, 235 to 169.

    Federico Rossi (below right), Italy, who led Squad 3 on Sunday afternoon, sits in 11th place with 1262. Monica Bagnolini, Italy, was the best of nine women in 17th place with 1212 including 48 pins women's handicap.

    With 69 players from France, Germany, Italy, San Marino and Turkey in the books, Claudio Cerroni, Italy, currently holds the 35th and last place to advance with 1166 (194.33 average).

    Qualifying continues Monday, July 9, with Squad 5 and 6 scheduled for 4 and 8 p.m. CEST.

    2012EBT11SanMarinoOpenBanner1_small.jpg 2012EBT11FedericoRossi.jpgThe 8th Storm San Marino Open is the 11th stop of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the second out of four EBT "Gold" tournaments this season. The tournament will be held July 7-15 at 18-lane Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino and offers total prize fund of 60.200 Euro with 10.000 Euro going to the winner, 6.000 to the runner-up and 3.400 each to the third and fourth place finisher.

    The San Marino Open features a 40 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 24.3ml volume oil total.

    The qualifying of the San Marino Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Saturday July 7 through Saturday, July 14 with the last qualifying squad 21 scheduled for 9 p.m. CEST. The qualifying winner will receive a 1.000 Euro bonus.

    Qualifying concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad scheduled to start at half past Midnight. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 48 players will advance to the finals on Sunday, July 15 - the top 35 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 7-8, the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 9-10, the top 4 from the squads conducted on July 11-12, and the top 3 from the Desperado Squad. The top 8 qualifiers receive two byes and qualifiers 9-16 get one.

    The other 32 players will bowl four games from scratch to cut to the top 16, who will meet qualifiers 9-16 in round two. Those 24 bowl another 4 games from scratch to cut to the top 8, who will join the top eight qualifiers in single-elimination match play with the two game total pinfall determining the winner.

    The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded, the second-highest seeded players bowls the second-lowest and so on. The field will be cut to 8, 4 then 2, who will bowl for the title and the 10.000 Euro top prize.

    2012EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 21 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, eight Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the San Marino Open 2012 gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.
