Four Russian bowlers move into top 8 in Tuesday's qualifying in Moscow

Oleg Kozyrev, Sergey Prokhan, Alexander Medveditskov and Sergey Andreev of Russia moved into the top 8 in the overall qualifying standings of the Russian Open Wednesday at Cosmik Belay Dacha in Moscow.
Marshall Kent (pictured left), United States, held on to the lead with 1478 and an average of 246.33. Alexander Minenko of Russia remained in second place with 1352 followed by Kent's fellow countrymen Cameron Weier with 1335.
Kozyrev was the best player in Wednesday's Squad 3 and 4 with 1315 total including five games between 210 and 246 and a low game of 268 en route to jump into fourth place overall. The third U.S. bowler in the top 8, who will bypass the first round of the finals, was Tanner Spacey in fifth place with 1310.
Prokhan was second to Kozyrev in Squad 4 with 1297, good for sixth place overall. Medveditskov (right) led Squad 3 with 1294 to finish the second qualifying day in seventh place.
Andreev improved his 1286 series from day Tuesday by four pins and was tied with two-hander Daniel Vezis at 1290. Andreev took eighth place due to the higher last game, 255 to 244.
Evgeniya Smirnova of Russia was the best of 31 women in the 110-player field from seven countries in 12th place with 1266 including 48 pins women's handicap. The cutoff number for 32nd place raised by 91 pins within the two squads and is now 1161 or an average of 193.50 posted by Dmitry Lapshinsky of Russia.
Qualifying continues Thursday, Sept. 13 with Squads 5-8 scheduled for 9 a.m., 1, 5 and 9 p.m. Moscow time (CET +2).
The Russian Open is the fourth of seven EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season and runs from Sept. 11-15 at 30-lane Cosmik Belay Dacha in Moscow, Russia. The Russian Open offers total prize fund of 25.000 Euro with 5.500 Euro going to the winner, 3.800 to the runner-up and 2.500 and 2.000 Euro for the third and fourth place finishers respectively.
Qualifying (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Tuesday, Sept. 11 through Friday, Sept. 14 with the last Squad 12 scheduled for 9 p.m. local time (CET +2) and concludes with the Desperado Squad slated for 12.30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.
A total of 36 players advance to the finals on Saturday, Sept. 15 including the top 32 players from the qualifying standings and the top 4 from the Desperado Squad. The top 8 qualifiers earn one bye and will be seeded first through 8th in Round Two.
The other 28 players bowl four games starting from scratch with the top 8 advancing to the second round seeded 9th through 16th.
The remaining 16 players determine the champion in single-elimination rounds with the two-game total to determine the winner. The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded player, the second highest seeded player bowls the second lowest seeded player, etc.
The field will be trimmed to eight and then four players. The winners of the semifinal matches bowl for the title and the 5.500 top prize, while the losers meet in a roll-off for third and fourth place.
The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 20 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, seven Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament such as the BNC Open earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.
Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters, which will be held Sept. 30, 2013 at BNC Bowling Center in Bratislava immediately following the 2013 BNC Open (Sept. 23-29).
