Oliver Pescher shoots 300 game in opening squad to take early lead in Chandra Open

    2012EBT15OliverPescher.jpg25 Dutch bowlers, two Germans, two Belgians and one player of the United States took to the lanes at Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherlands for the opening squad of the Chandra Open 2012 Monday evening.

    Oliver Pescher (pictured left) of Germany started his six-game series with 218, 257, 224 and 235 before he suffered a 145 in the fifth. Pescher, however, rebounded from the low game by rolling the tournament's first 300 game en route to grab the lead with 1379 and an average of 229.83.

    His compatriot Dirk Dreyer, who had a comfortable 76-pin lead heading into the final game, slipped to second place with 1269. Third place belonged to the best Dutch bowler Jeroen van Geel with 1364 followed by Johnny Spil, Netherlands with 1321.

    2012EBT15EllenJansen.jpgThe top four players of a separate leaderboard of Squads 1-3, will earn automatic spots into Sunday's finals if they don't finish in the top 30 overall.

    Dutch national team member Ellen Jansen (right) was the best of four women on Monday in sixth place with 1263 including handicap. Michel Baars, Netherlands, set the first cutoff number for 30th place with 970 or an average of 161.67.

    Qualifying continues Tuesday, Sept. 25 with Squad 2 scheduled for 8 p.m. CEST.

    The Chandra Open 2012 will be held Sept. 24-30, 2012 at 16-lane Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, The tournament is the 15th stop of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the fifth out of seven EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season.

    The Chandra Open offers total prize fund of 24.600 Euro with 5.000 Euro going to the winner and 3.000 Euro to the runner-up, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive 2.000 Euro and 1.000, respectively.

    Qualifying of the Chandra Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Monday, Sept. 24 through Saturday, Sept. 29 with the last Squad 12 scheduled for 6 p.m. CEST and concludes with the Desperado Squad slated for 9.30 p.m. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 38 players will advance to the finals on Sunday, Sept. 30 - the top 30 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 from a separate leader board of Squad 1-3, and the top 4 from the Desperado Squad. The top 6 qualifiers earn one bye.

    The other 32 players will bowl six games starting from scratch with the top 10 advancing to the second round. The top 10 from Round One and the top six qualifiers will bowl six games starting from scratch to cut to the top 8.

    Those eight will bowl another six-game block with the pinfall from Round Two being carried forward. The player with the highest 12-game total will be declared the winner.
