Korea's Choi Bok-Eum averages over 250 to lead Final Round Two in Thailand

    The top 12 meet the top eight qualifiers in Round Three on Monday morning; USA's Diandra Asbaty, the only woman in the 20-player field, wins WBT women's ranking in Bangkok

    The lefty, a multiple Asian Games and Asian championships gold medalist, had games of 258, 202, 268, 299, 242 and 236 for 1505 total and an average of 250.83.

    Trailing the Korean by 39 pins to finish in second place was Diandra Asbaty (right), United States. The 2012 USBC Queens winner was the sole woman, who survived the third cut, with 1466 including eight pins handicap each game en route to win the WBT women's ranking in Bangkok.

    Also advancing from the large PBA contingent were Dan MacLelland of Canada (8th; 1332), Bill O'Neill, United States (9th, 1326) and Chris Barnes, United States (10th; 1300).

    Defending champion and four-time PBA champion Jason Belmonte of Australia took the 12th and last place to advance with 1278, an average of 213, mere three and five pins ahead of Lim Dong-Sung (1275) of Korea and UAE's Shaker Al-Hassan (1273).

    The top 12 will meet the top eight qualifiers, who received two byes, in Final Round Three (fourth round overall) starting at 10 a.m. local time on Monday, Oct. 1. The top 8 after six games scratch will advance to the TV stepladder finals schedule for 2 p.m.

    WBTLogo.jpgThe World Bowling Tour Thailand 2012 will be held from Sept. 24 through Oct. 1, 2012 at Blu-O-Paragon bowling center in Bangkok, Thailand. The tournament is the 10th stop of the 2012 World Bowling Tour and offers total prize fund of 4.215 million Baht or approx. 132,000 USD with 1 million Baht ($32,250) going to the winner and 500.000 Baht to the runner-up.

    The World Bowling Tour Thailand 2012 will also award a PBA Tour title if won by PBA member or a PBA international member.

    Qualifying (Three highest three-game series, unlimited re-entries) ran from Tuesday, Sept. 25 through Saturday, Sept. 30 and concluded with the one-game Desperado Squad. Women receive eight pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament.

    Total 42 of 72 players from 16 countries advanced to the finals including
    • the top 7 qualifiers (received two byes),
    • the next two local bowlers (8th received two byes, 9th got one bye),
    • the next 29 players in the overall standings seeded 10-38 (10-24 received one bye)
    • plus another two locals seeded 39-40 and
    • the top 2 of the Desperado Squad seeded 41-42.
    Round 2, 3 and 4 each feature a six-game series from scratch. Ties in Round 1-4 will be broken by a one-ball roll-off. The field will be trimmed to 34, 20 and eight players, who will determine the champion in the TV stepladder final.

    After the Bahamas Classic has been postponed and the Daejeon International Open 2012 in Korea has lost its WBT status, the 2012 World Bowling Tour consists of 12 tournaments in America, Asia, Europe and Australia - five in the United States and one each in Australia, Austria, Finland, France, Japan, Kuwait and Thailand.

    Players earn ranking points based on how they finish in each event. The current points system is based on a continuous two-year cycle, so points earned in 2012 will be added to points earned in 2011 to determine the points list.

    The top three men and top three women will be invited to compete in the World Bowling Tour Finals presented by the Professional Bowlers Association at the end of 2012 featuring total prize fund of $70,000.
