Leo Grundschober, Daniel Hahn crack the 1300-bar to kick off 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open

Leo Grundschober and Daniel Hahn (pictured left, l-r) of Austria became the first players of the 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open who cracked the 1300-bar Tuesday afternoon at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. Grundschober had games of 224, 235, 201, 196, 257 and 203 to lead the first of 17 qualifying squads with 1316 and an average of 219.33.
As the squad leader Grundschober is automatically qualified for the finals on Sunday, Oct. 7 live on Bowlingdigital TV. If Grundschober will qualify among the top 52, Hahn will be the next in line to earn the wild card due to his second-place finish in Squad 1 with 1310. Hahn had six games between 203 and 234.
Zoltan Skobrics of Hungary was a distant third with 1250 and was followed by Thomas Tybl of Austria with 1244.

Second place belonged to Tybl and his partner, former World champion Robert Andersson (pictured left, l-r) of Sweden (8th, 1202) with 2446. Third place belonged to Hahn and compatriot Rene Landl with 2402.
The 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open is the 16th stop of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the last of four EBT "Gold" tournaments (the second-highest category) this season. Players will compete for an increased total prize fund of 75.130 Euro (approx. $100,000) - 64.900 € for Singles and 10.230 € for the Doubles event.
The singles champion will receive the 7.000 € top prize, the runner-up earns 5.000 and the third and fourth-place finishers get 3.500 and 2.500 Euro, respectively. The doubles champions will split 1.600 €.
The 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open will also award a PBA Tour title if won by a PBA member or a PBA international member.
The qualifying of the Vienna Open is traditionally contested as a Doubles tournament. Each duo rolls at least one six-game block. Unlimited re-entries - with the same or with different partners - are possible but each player can only cash once with the same partner.
Qualifying runs from Tuesday, Oct. 2 through Saturday, Oct. 6 with the final Squad 17 starting at 8 p.m. local time (CEST). Qualifying concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad slated for 11.30 p.m. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour

The live streaming coverage is a partnership between the Austrian Bowling Federation, Plus Bowling, Columbia 300 and Bowlingdigital.com.
The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 19 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, six Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the Vienna Open gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.
Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.

A total of 64 players will qualify for the Vienna Open finals on Sunday, Oct. 7:
- the top 52 players from the overall qualifying standings
- the first player each from Squad 1-6, who is not among the top 52 (total 6 players)
- and the top 6 from the Desperado Squad.
The top 8 qualifying leaders will bypass the first round of the finals. The other 56 players will bowl six games starting from scratch to cut to the top 22, who will join the top qualifiers in Round Two.
Those 30 players will bowl another six games starting from scratch after which the field will be trimmed to the top 18, who will carry the pinfall forward into Round Three. After another six-game block the top 4 players with the highest 12-game total will advance to the stepladder finals.
The No. 4 seed meets the No. 3 in the opening match and the winner takes on the No. 2 seed for the right to bowl the top seed for the title, 150 ranking points and the 7.000 Euro top prize.
