Michaela Göbel-Janka leads QubicaAMF German Open 2013 after Squad 8

    2013EBT05MichaelaGobelJanka.jpg2013EBT05GeorgeStefanidis.jpgMichaela Göbel-Janka (pictured left) of Germany led a field of 220 players after eight qualifying squads in the QubicaAMF German Open 2013 currently underway at A10 bowling center in Berlin, Germany.

    The long-time German national team member rolled games of 239, 259, 200, 216, 233 and 193 in Squad 7 for 1340 scratch pinfall, an average of 223.33, and added 48 pins women's handicap for 1388 total.

    Squad 8 leader George Stefanidis (right) of Greece had the highest scratch total of 1375 including high games of 237, 248 and 254 to sit in second place with the field-best 229.17 average.

    2013EBT05MarcoBaade.jpg2013EBT05LisaKabowski.jpgThird place belonged to German international Marco Baade (left), who posted 1365 in Squad 3. Baade was followed by Swede Pontus Andersson, who was second in Squad 8, with 1361.

    Rounding out the top 5 was Lisa Kabowski (right) of Germany, who led the first squad with 1312 including handicap.

    With another seven qualifying squads to go on Friday and Saturday, World and European champion Robert Andersson of Sweden holds the 40th and last place to advance to the finals with 1230 an average of 205.

    Qualifying continues Friday, April 26, with Squads 9-11 at 11 a.m., 3 and 7 p.m. local time (CEST).

    The QubicaAMF German Open 2013 is the fifth stop of the 2013 European Bowling Tour and the second out of six EBT "Gold" events this season. The tournament will be held from Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 28, 2013 at A10 Bowling, a 32-laner in Berlin, Germany.

    Players will compete for total prize money of 60.000 Euro with 7.000 Euro going to the winner, 4.000 Euro to the runner-up and 2.400 apiece to the third and fourth place finishers.

    Qualifying (6 games, unlimited re-entries) runs through Saturday, April 27, with the final Squad 15 slated for 8.00 p.m. CEST. Qualifying concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad scheduled for 11.30 p.m. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    The tournament will be contested on a 39 ft. Oil Pattern (pdf file) with 25.2ml volume oil total.

    The top 40 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 of Squad 3 (not among the top 40) and the top 4 of the Desperado Squad will advance to the finals on Sunday, April 28. The top eight qualifiers enjoy a two-round bye while qualifiers 9-16 get a first-round bye.

    The first three rounds of the finals each consist of four games scratch which will trim the field to 28, 16 and then eight players, who will bowl for the title in single-elimination match play finals with the two-game total determining the winner.

    In each match, the highest seeded player will meet the lowest seeded player, the second-highest seeded player will meet the second-lowest seeded player, etc.

    2013EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2013 European Bowling Tour consists of 19 tournaments in 13 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, four Silver and seven Satellite events.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the QubicaAMF German Open 2013 gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 12 men and the top 12 women at the end of the 2013 season qualify for the seventh EBT Masters to be held March 3, 2014 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands immediately following the EBT Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2014.

    At the end of the qualifying, the top 40 plus the top four players from Squad 3 and the top four of the Desperado Squad will advance to the finals. The top 8 qualifiers will receive two byes and qualifiers 9-16 will get one bye.
