Paul Moor wins yet another EBT title in Barcelona

    Paul Moor.jpg In a match between two Englishmen, two-time defending European ranking champion Paul Moor topped No. 1 seed Stuart Williams, 221-178, to win his second EBT title of the 2006 season after the Istanbul Open.

    Moor received 10.000 Euro, while Williams, who has won the Ebonite International Luxembourg Open in February, received 5.000 Euro.

    In a high-scoring opening match, Moor ousted Thomas Gross, Austria, 268-242.

    With the 100 ranking points for the victory, Moor will overtake the lead in the 2006 European rankings.

    His compatriot, two-time European ranking champion Paul Moor will meet multiple Austrian champion Thomas Gross in the opening match.

    PBA champion Mika Machuga missed the stepladder final by 26 pins to finish fourth. Defending champion and PBA Hall of Famer Brian Voss landed in 12th place.

    Mike Machuga powers his way into the lead in Barcelona


    Mike Machuga.jpg PBA champion Mike Machuga fired games of 247, 236, 234 and 280 in the quarter-finals to jump into the lead in the Ciutat de Barcelona in Spain, the 12th stop of the 2006 European Bowling Tour. Machuga averaged 249,25 for the round and felled 997 pins to lead the top 24 into the semis with 1672 pinfall total.

    England's Paul Moor and Stuart Williams changed places to sit in second and third with 1659 and 1642, resp. Defending champion Brian Voss is 20th with 1502. Robert Andersson - once again - captured the final post to advance. The Swede beat out last year's runner-up Jo Harries for 24th place by one pin.

    The top 24 will bowl another four-game set to cut to the top three for the stepladder finals. The winner will walk away with the 10.000 Euro top prize.

    Patricia Schwarz leads 48 players into finals in Barcelona

    Patricia_Schwarz_5631.jpg Patricia Schwarz of Germany remained unchallenged on the final day of qualifying at the 28th Trofeo Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona. The former World Games champion had a 1469 six-game total including the 48 pins Women's handicap to lead the 182-player field.

    Stuart Williams 2.jpg Second place belonged to Stuart Williams (right), England, the only other player who cracked the 1400-bar with 1403. His compatriot and two-time European ranking champion Paul Moor was third at 1387. Williams and Moor won Squads 11 and 12, resp.

    Thomas_Gross_4720.jpg Former World Champion Patrick Backe posted a 1380 total in Squad 8 to land in fourth place, with Austrian Thomas Gross (left) close behind at 1373. In his two attempts, Gross won Squad 10 with 1337 and improved his score to 1373 to win the 13th and final squad. He beat his wife Yvonne, who is in 9th place overall with 1362, by 11 pins for the squad lead.

Last year, Voss topped Jo Harries (right) from England, 245-203, to win his first EBT title and the 10.000 first prize. Harries is looking for revenge as she made the cut in 19th place with 1339.

    48 players survived the qualifying rounds with maximum one re-entry. Besides the 13 squad leaders, 29 players from the general standings plus six women advanced to the quarterfinals on Sunday morning. 50 per cent of the qualifying pinfall will be carried forward.

    All players will bowl four games to cut to the top 24, who will bowl another four games to cut to the top three for the stepladder finals. The winner will walk away with the 10.000 Euro top prize.

The former World Games champion posted 219, 257, 225, 233, 249, 238 for 1421 scratch, an average of 236,83, an 1469 including the 48 pins women's handicap. Qualifying will conclude on Saturday with the final four squads.

    Besides the 13 squad leaders, 29 players from the general standings plus six women - total 48 players - will advance. 50 per cent of the qualifying pinfall will be carried forward.     Jimmy Dan Mortensen leads qualifying in Barcelona


    Dane Jimmy Dan Mortensen rolled games of 224, 259, 209, 198, 253 and 226 to take the lead in the qualifying for the 28th Trofeo Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Spain. As one of five squad leaders thus far, Mortensen is automatically qualified for the finals on Sunday.
