Oliver Morig, Andrea Spadavecchia add their names to the leaderboard in San Marino

    Italy's Federico Rossi continues to lead the 79-player field from 10 countries with 1449; score to make the cut in 35th place is now 1153 (192.17 average)

    2014EBT10OliverMorig.jpg2014EBT10AndreaSpadavecchia.jpgAfter disappointing performances on Monday, Germany's Oliver Morig and Andrea Spadavecchia of Italy returned to Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino, and rolled the only 1300-plus series on Tuesday to add their names to the qualifying leaderboard in the San Marino Open.

    Morig (pictured left), who was second in Squad 5 with 1236, posted the highest 1337 series Tuesday to improve by 101 pins and to leap from ninth to fourth place. Morig had games of 249, 224, 222, 256, 199 and 187 in Squad 7, an average of 222.83 for six games.

    2014EBT10FedericoRossi.jpg2014EBT10AmedeoSpada2.jpgSpadavecchia (above right) topped his high series, where he led Squad 6 with sub-par 1188, by 137 pins in Tuesday's Squad 8 to jump from 20th to fifth place with 1325, an average of 220.83. Spadavecchia rolled games of 211, 190, 261, 231, 186 and 246.

    An Italian trio consisting of Federico Rossi, Amedeo Spada and Alessandro Silletti continued the 10th edition of the event.

    Rossi (left), who has the lone 300 game and 1400 series of the tournament, sits in the pole position with 1449 and an average of 241.50. Spada (right) is 74 pins behind in second place with 1375 and is followed by Silletti with 1347.

Rounding out the top 8, who will receive two byes for the finals, is Mikael Brændeskov of Denmark, who was second to Spadavecchia in Squad 8 with 1297 including a 258 last game.

    Tim Mack (right), United States, who has won numerous international titles in his career, was next with 1234, good for 16th place overall. Places 9-16 at the end of the qualifying will receive a first-round bye.

    2012EBT11LaurenceGaillard.jpg2014EBT10AlessandroSilletti2.jpgBy virtue of finishing 1-3 on a separate leaderboard of the squads on Monday and Tuesday Silletti (left), Morig and Spadavecchia will earn berths into the finals on Sunday, July 20. If any of the three bowlers finishes among the top 35, the automatic spot drops to the next player in the Squad 5-8 standings.

    Laurence Gaillard (right) of France remained the best of just five women in the field in 21st place with 1206 including eight pins handicap per game. The only other woman in the top 35 to date is 33rd place Pamela Frioni, Italy, with 1163 including handicap.

    Sandro Maltinti, Italy, holds the 35th and last place to qualify directly for the finals with 1153 and an average of 192.17. Qualifying continues Wednesday, July 16, with Squads 9-11 scheduled to start at noon, 4 and 8 p.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST).

The 10th anniversary edition will be held 12-20 at 18-lane Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino and offers total prize fund of 60.000 Euro with 8.000 Euro going to the winner, 5.000 to the runner-up, 3.300 to the third and 2.400 to the fourth place finisher.

    The San Marino Open features a 42 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 24.84 ml volume oil total.

    Qualifying of the San Marino Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Saturday July 12 through Saturday, July 19 with the last qualifying squad 21 scheduled for 9 p.m. CEST. The qualifying winner will receive a 1.000 Euro bonus.

    Qualifying concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad scheduled to start at Midnight. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 48 players will advance to the finals on Sunday, July 20, including the top 35 qualifiers plus the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 12-13, the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 14-15, the top 4 from the squads conducted on July 16-17, and the top 3 from the Desperado Squad.

    The top 8 qualifiers receive two byes and qualifiers 9-16 get a first-round bye. The other 32 players will bowl four games from scratch to cut to the top 16, who will meet qualifiers 9-16 in round two. Those 24 bowl another 4 games from scratch to cut to the top 8, who will join the top eight in the last six-game round before the cut to the top 4.

    Those four will determine the winner in an eliminator-format finals which will feature three one-game rounds. All four players bowl the opening game, with the lowest-scoring player being eliminated. In the two rounds to follow, the same "low man out" format applies. The last man standing will be declared the champion.

    2014EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2014 European Bowling Tour features 20 tournaments in 14 countries. In its 15th season, the EBT consists of two Platinum, six Gold, three Silver and nine Satellite tournaments. The total prize fund exceeds one million Euro.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the eighth EBT Masters July 6, 2015 at Bowling Chamartín in Madrid, Spain, immediately following the III Brunswick Madrid Challenge.
