Jaroslav Lorenc shoots 1456 series to win qualifying at Chandra Open 2015

    Czech bowler averages 242.67 in the final qualifying squad to lead 40 players into Sunday's finals; score to make the cut in 30th place is 1263 (210.50); Lars Pöhler (GER) rolls the second perfecto, qualifies through Desperado Squad

    2015EBT13JaroslavLorenc.jpgJaroslav Lorenc (pictured left) of the Czech Republic led the ninth and final qualifying squad Saturday evening with 1456 total and an average of 242.67 to win the qualifying of the Chandra Open 2015 and to lead 40 players into Sunday finals at Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherlands.

    Lorenc, who has a career-high finish of second in the 9th International Wroclaw Open in February this year, fired games of 244, 247, 238, 225, 266 and 236 to lead a field of 112 players, 93 men and 19 women, from 19 countries.

    Lorenc beat out Thibaut Lanos of France for the bragging rights by 33 pins. Lanos posted games of 223, 231, 255, 235, 254 and 225 on his way to a 1423 series (237.17 average) to finish qualifying in second place.

    2015EBT13PaulMoor.jpgGhislaine Stigter-van der Tol, Netherlands, who led since the first squad slipped to third place with 1419 total including 48 pins women's handicap and was the best of six women, who survived the first cut.

    Defending champion Paul Moor (right) of England, who owns record 16 European Bowling Tour titles, led Squad 8 with 1412, including games of 227, 236, 238, 207, 234 and 270, an average of 235.33, to qualify for the finals in fourth place with 1412.

    Belgium's Jimmy Ravez was the last player, who surpassed the 1400-mark in fifth place with 1411. Mik Stampe of Denmark was sixth with 1383 and was followed by Mark Jacobs, Netherlands, who fell to seventh place with 1378, including the tournament's first 300.

    2015EBT13TomvanVliet.jpgRounding out the top 8, who will bypass the first round of the finals, was Alex de Vries, Netherlands, with 1361 or an average of 226.83.

    Tom van Vliet (left), Netherlands, led the first squad on Saturday (seventh overall) with 1325, good for 17th place in the overall qualifying standings. His compatriot Michell Stinissen took the 30th and last place with 1263 (210.50).

    Qualifiers 9 to 30 will be joined in the first round of the finals by the top six players of a separate leaderboard of the first four squads who were not among the top 30 and the top four players of the one-game Desperado Squad, which concluded qualifying on Saturday evening.

    Dutch Jordi Putman led 16 Desperados with 235 and was followed by Lars Pöhler of Germany with 225, who failed to qualify with 1219 despite rolling the tournament's second 300 game in Squad 9. Also advancing from the Desperado Squad were Xavier Milet (221) of Belgium and Sophie Thompson (217) of England.

    The Chandra Open 2015 is the 13th stop of the 2014 European Bowling Tour and the sixth out of seven EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season. The tournament runs from Sept. 13-20 at 16-lane Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherlands.

    This year's edition offers total prize fund of 25.600 Euro with 5.000 Euro going to the winner and 3.000 Euro to the runner-up, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive 2.000 Euro and 1.000, respectively. Final cash spot is 40th place worth 300 Euro.

    The Chandra Open features a 42 feet lane conditioning pattern with 28.65ml volume oil total.

    Qualifying (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) ran from Sunday, Sept. 13, through Saturday, Sept. 19. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game (maximum is 300) throughout the entire tournament, an equality handicap provided to women in all European Bowling Tour events.

    Total of 40 players advanced to the finals on Sunday, Sept. 20, including the top 30 from the overall qualifying standings, the top 6 of a separate leader board of Squads 1-4 (Sept. 13-17), and the top 4 of the one-game Desperado Squad. The top 8 qualifiers received a first-round bye.

    The remaining 32 players bowl four games starting from scratch with half of the field advancing to the second round. The top 16 from Round One and the top eight qualifiers bowl another four-game round starting from scratch. The top 12 will carry over their four-game total into the final six-game round. The player with the highest 10-game total including handicap will earn the title and the 5.000 Euro top prize.

    2015EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2015 European Bowling Tour currently consists of 16 tournaments in 12 countries featuring three "Platinum" events, three "Gold", three "Silver" and seven "Satellite" events. All 16 tournaments together offer total prize fund of 850.000 Euro.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the 9th EBT Masters July 25, 2016 at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino following the 12th San Marino Open.
