Singaporeans crack top 20 in 24th qualifying squad in Brunswick Euro Challenge

Shaun Ng (left) and Lee Yu-Wen, who shot the second and third of total four 300 games this week, led the 24th qualifying squad in the Brunswick Euro Challenge at Strike Bowling Club in Thessaloniki, Greece en route to move into 17th and 18th position in the qualifying standings.
Ng started the six-game series at 8am with 243, 289 and 221 but was unable to match his vigorous pace over the second three games. He finished with 189, 227 and 193 to secure a spot for Sunday's finals with 1362 pinfall total and an average of 227.00.
Lee (pictured right) was close behind with 1356. He had high games of 258 and 233 and a low game of 196.
Nick Plummen (left), Netherlands improved his score to 1320 to leap into 37th place. Multiple Austrian champion Thomas Gross felled 1316 pins, good for 37th place.
John Dimitriou, Greece, moved into 47th place behind a 1286 series. The sixth player from squad, who cracked the top 52 was Austrian Leo Grundschober (48th, 1284).
Osku Palermaa, who shot the fourth perfect game of the 2007 Brunswick Euro Challenge in the 19th qualifying squad (American Tim Mack shot the first), remained unchallenged atop the leaderboard with 1430 six-game total and an average of 238.33.
With 308 from 32 countries having completed at least one qualifying block, the cutoff number for 16th place is 1365 (Nikita Koshelev, Russia) and 1277 for 52nd place (Juha Immonen, Finland).
Qualifying continues with three more squads today and ends with the 27th and final qualifying squad scheduled for 8pm followed by the Desperado Squad, the ultimate one-game chance to qualify for the finals on Sunday, March 18.

The BEC is the fifth stop of the 2007 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Majors". Since the cancellation of the Viernheim Open, the Brunswick Euro Challenge is the richest event on the 2007 European Bowling Tour.
The total prize fund for the Open Division, Women and B-Bowlers plus special prizes is 90.000 Euro (approx. US$116,600). The Open Division champion will pocket 16.000 €.
A total of 64 players will qualify for the finals on Sunday, March 18:
The top 16 qualifying leaders will bypass the first round. The other 48 finalists roll six games starting from scratch. The top 16 will join the 16 qualifying leaders in the best-of-three games single elimination finals. The highest ranked player will bowl the lowest seed, etc.
The rounds of 32, 16 and 8 trim the field from 16, to eight, then to four. The remaining four players will be seeded 1 to 4 for the stepladder finals to determine the champion in three one-game matches: No. 4 vs. No. 3, winner vs. No. 2, winner vs. No. 1.
