Palermaa triumphs in Brunswick Euro Challenge

Osku Palermaa (l.) from Finland flew past Britt Bröndsted (r.), 268-215, to win the Brunswick Euro Challenge in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Palermaa, who led the tournament since the qualifying, pocketed the 16.000 Euro top prize. Jouni Helminen defeated Pasi Uotila, both from Finland, 192-159, in the opening match but fell to the Dane in the semi-final, 222-216.
Palermaa, well known for his powerful two-handed delivery, started the title match with four consecutive strikes, spared a 7-pin in the fifth and added another five-bagger to put the match out of Bröndsted's reach with the strike in the ninth frame. Bröndsted, who won the tournament in 2004, bowled a clean game with six strikes and six single-pin spares, but that was not enough to win the 2007 BEC title.
Bröndsted was consoled with 9.000 Euro for the second place. Helminen (l.) earned 6.000 Euro for third and Uotila (r.) received 4.300 Euro for fourth place.
The 2007 Brunswick Euro Challenge draw 321 players from 32 countries. It was very well organized by a friendly and hard working tournament crew and offered the highest prize money of the 2007 European Bowling Tour - a total of 90.000 Euro.
