Larsen rolls 300 game en route to win the title in Luxembourg from No. 1 seed

Martin Larsen (pictured) from Sweden won his third career EBT title when he defeated Frederik Øhrgaard, Denmark, two-games-to-none in the title match of the Ebonite International Luxembourg Open at Inter-Bowling S.à r.l. in Foetz/Mondercange.
The No. 1 seed won the first game 203-189 and sealed the victory with a 193-179 win in game #2.
In the opening match, Larsen came back from 1-0 deficit against Dominic Barrett from England.
Larsen leveled the match with a one-pin victory in game #2 (211-210) and flew past his opponent with a 300 game in the decider, the fourth perfecto of this year's tournament.
In the other semi-final match Øhrgaard, the No. 3 seed, swept No. 2, Thomas Gross, Austria, 2-0.
Larsen earned 5.000 Euro and 50 ranking points for his third victory on the EBT. The first came in Malta 2002 and the second last year in Catalonia. Øhrgaard received 4.000 Euro for second place, while Gross garnered 3.000 Euro for third and Barrett pocketed 2.000 Euro for fourth.

Organizers announce withdrawal from the European Bowling Tour

Williams rolls 300 to lead Round One in Luxembourg
World Ranking Masters champion Stuart Williams (left), England, rolled the second 300 game of the Ebonite International Luxembourg Open en route to lead the top 20 players from Round One into the second round. Williams started his 5-game block with 225 and 268, then achieved perfection and closed out the series with 250 and 247 for 1290 pinfall total, an average of 258. Belgians Jimmy Ravez and Jean Marc Lebon (right) were second and third with 1114 and 1093. Marilyn Planchard (left), France was fourth, with 1081 including handicap and will battle it out for the women's ranking title with her compatriot Isabelle Saldjian, who was 14th with 1035. Asgeir Thordarson, Iceland, hit the cutoff number with 1011 (202.20).
The top 20 will meet qualifiers 11-20 in Round Two, which consists of another five-game block starting from scratch. The top 10 will join qualifiers 1-10 in Round Three. The field will be cut to 10, then four, who will determine the champion in best-of-three games semifinals and final.
The Luxembourg Open is the 2nd of 18 stops of the 2008 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's 'Challenger' events. The tournament offers total prize money of 32.500 Euro or approximately 48,000 U.S. Dollar. The winner will receive the 5.000 Euro top prize.

Blasé wins qualifying in Luxembourg; Palermaa shoots 300 to take second place
Oliver Blasé (pictured left), Germany, led the 212-player field in the Ebonite International Luxembourg Open - 175 men and 37 women from 21 countries - after qualifying with 1484 six-game total and an average of 247.33. European ranking champion. Osku Palermaa (right), Finland, rolled the sole 300 game of the tournament thus far in the penultimate squad on Saturday to move into second place with 1436. Dominic Barrett, England, was just one pin behind in third place with 1435 followed by Robert Andersson, Sweden, with 1401. Rounding out the top 5 was defending champion Paul Moor, England, with 1390.
Nicole Sanders, Netherlands, was the best of six women who survived the first cut in 24th place with 1319 including 48 pins handicap. Others were Marie Anne Baudisson (44th), Isabelle Saldjian (45th), Valérie Mourgues (51st), all France, Wendy Kok, Netherlands (53rd) and Marilyn Planchard, France, who took the 54th and final qualifying post with 1270.
The top 54 players from the qualifying plus the top 6 from the Desperado Squad (total 60 players) advanced to the finals on Sunday, Feb. 3. The top 10 qualifiers (cut was 1362) received two byes, while No. 11-20 (cut was 1329) earned one bye.

Blase (pictured) used high games of 289 and 280 to jump into the lead with 1484 six-game total and an average of 247.33. Barrett had a 268 and a pair of 257s to leap into second with 1435. Andersson had a 279 and back-to-back 252 to overtake the third place with 1401.

Moor overtakes qualifying lead in Luxembourg
Defending Luxembourg Open champion Paul Moor, England, had games of 222, 223, 231, 233, 256 and 225 to overtake the lead after the fifth qualifying squad at Inter-Bowling S.à r.l. in Luxembourg. The lefty felled 1390 pins and averaged 231.67 over his six games. Moor won his 10th career European Bowling Tour title in Luxembourg last year and is the first player, who accomplished the feat in the 9-year history of the EBT Tour.
Previous leaders Martin Larsen, Sweden (1372), Achim Grabowski, Germany (1369), Menno van den Heuvel, Netherlands (1358), Osku Palermaa, Finland, and Peter Ljung, Sweden (tied at 1356) fell one spot to second through sixth place, respectively.

Qualifying continues through Saturday evening, Feb. 2, with the final Squad 13 scheduled for 8 p.m. local time. (GMT +1). Qualifying will conclude with the one-game Desperado Squad at 11.30 p.m.
The top 54 players from the qualifying plus the top 6 from the Desperado Squad (total 60 players) will advance to the finals on Sunday, Feb. 3. The top 10 qualifiers will bypass the first two rounds of the finals, while No. 11-20 will earn one bye.
Rounds 1-4 will consist of five games from scratch. The remaining four players will determine the champion in best-of-three games semifinals and final.
